I grabbed two tins of this not long back and was very surprised with it. Not as smoky as I had thought it would be from the tin note but a really nice blend nonetheless. My guess with the mediocre reviews is that since it doesn't have a prominent smokiness to it people were off put.
I see you're using either clear wrap or foil (hard to see). I've had success with waxed paper, no sticking. Tey look great though, I like the small plugs and may have to build a setup like yours. I've been doing the same just with 2 inch pipe.
Clever! Hadn't thought to do this before. I generally don't compact my tobaccos in jars as I don't mind some air in the jar to help with aging. I have crammed in bulk of "the leftovers" simply to save space and may try this technique next time I have too much.
Oddly, I found myself smoking an American Spirit Black cig recently (their Perique blend), and noticed I was retrohaling and not inhaling. I do inhale the pipe smoke occasionally though.
Try allowing your tobacco to dry a bit more before loading your pipe. The extra moisture in the leaf could be accumulating.
I do want to mention, there seems to be a popular idea that a bowl MUST be smoked all the way to the bottom every time. I don't follow this. I stop when it's no longer...
If you decide to branch out to the flavored ropes don't expect an aromatic quality to them. I had my first bowl of maple twist yesterday and it was like a strong cigar, no maple that I could pick up. Nice tobacco but quite similar to HBB and Black XX.
It's reflex for most of us to say mason jars are best for storage and aging, I scream it from the hilltops when it comes up in conversation. What I've been thinking about though is while aerobic aging (having air in the jar) is ideal for VA's, what do you do for Lat forward blends?
My...
cool, I'm holding you to it then Cosmic, thanks.
It's not something that would sway my decision either way since I've already hit that magic happy button that makes cool stuff show up at my door.
Quick question for you all. I'm looking at tr.com and see that both the sweet maple twist and rum twist state they are both the same base tobacco as Black and Brown Irish X. But if you look at the leaf for each, Maple says it's VA and Rum says Burley/Kentucky. Which is it?
