Birth Of A Cellar
I like the wide mouth 8oz jars for easy access and stuffing. The only problem is that I dont smoke often enough and I now have 28 Mason jars sitting around and about 10 opened tins. Assuming the packing is indeed ok(different blends burn better with firmer packing) it sounds like tamping might be the issue. Check Your 2012 GL Pease Navigator
Recently cracked a tin from 2013 and indulged for the first time, quite tasty stuff. Sweet and creamy virginia's with a smokey spicy backdrop and some nutiness that progresses down the bowl. Thoughts on Beacon Extra
I get that ashy taste from time to time, but never really with Virginia's. Typically burleys will do that,especially, when I smoke a little to vigously. I recommend ashing a little to prevent that and pull back on the puff-o-meter- maduromadness
