    Dottle

Many years ago I was hanging out with an old guy(my age currently lol) and we were both smoking our pipes. When I was toward the end I dumped the dottle to reload. He asked me why I didnt smoke it down to the end..he filled my bowl so he knew the tobacco was dry enough. I told him I didnt like...

    Pipe Smoking, Relationships, and Compromise

Interesting question. My experience has been very different so maybe you should take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Our first date was in 1980 and I took her to the drive-ins. As soon as we got there, I cracked the window open and lit up a pipe. She said "oh, I like the smell of that...

    Spotted...In The Wild!

I smoke my pipe in public constantly and on many occasions people have approached me. If I don't feel like talking about it I shut the conversation down but normally I enjoy it. A fellow pipe smoker often says "what are you smoking today". In fact just the other day I was on a golf cart ride in...

How Many Bowls do You Smoke a Day?

Been smoking a pipe for over 40 years and I also smoke a couple of cigars a week. Most days I smoke between 6-10 bowls. I always have a pipe with me and a pouch of tobacco in my front pocket. Although I am mindful of non smokers my family knows that a pipe is part of the package and rarely even...

    Before And After

This morning I shared a post about a neighbor lady giving me some pipes from her house. I did some light restoration work on them this evening and thought I would share the results. I'm real happy with how these freebies turned out.

    Any Info Would Be Appreciated!

Yes, there is a well inside the Shank. I was thinking that it could be a Wellington as well.

By the way, I'm sorry about the repeat photos. I'm not sure how that happened. Old people in technology are never a good mix.

    Any Info Would Be Appreciated!

One of the benefits of openly smoking your pipe in public is that friends and neighbors start to think of you as "the pipe guy"and will occasionally pass on pipes that they come across. I have been the recipient of many free pipes this way. A couple of days ago I was out for a morning stroll...

    Wellington Pipe

I have so many pipes(about 150 in my personal collection) and have restored well over 500 for resale or trading. I find something meditative about restoring a "no hope"pipe to good, smokable condition. However, I made the decision last year to only buy pipes that I plan to resell or trade...

When is the tobacco bowl done?

Good question. I generally smoke until I can't keep it lit. Unlike others, I often find that the best flavor is that the bottom of the bowl.

Getting Back in the Groove: Beginner Questions

I have been smoking a pipe for over 40 years and have always wiped out my pipe bowls with the waded up paper towel. Much to my wife's chagrin I smoke a good bit ...6-8 bowls daily. I have literally smoked thousands of bowls out of the few of my favorite pipes and most of them have never required...

Smoking Sessions - Splitting up a bowl

Yes! I do it almost every day. It's not unusual for me to start a bowl and set the pipe down only to finish it several hours later. It is one of the pleasures of pipe smoking. Unlike a cigar, I never feel pressured to finish.

    Is this a Lumberman pipe?

Hello fellow pipers, I purchased this pipe for $10 at a local antique shop. I did some light restoration and am looking for some information. It is a billiard shape with a very long, oval shank with a short stem. It is surprisingly easy to clench and a great smoker. This is the nomenclature on...

Where Is Your Favorite Place To Smoke A Pipe

Good evening fellow pipers. As an old retired guy, I generally smoke 3-5 bowls day. Some are when I am working in the yard, watching a good movie, or reading a good book. But, my favorite place for a good smoke is in front of a campfire. This evening, I am smoking some Boswells Private Stock...

    What's your favorite aromatic?

I generally smoke English tobacco but really enjoy Boswells Hunters Choice and Smokers Choice. Sometimes I will punch then up by adding some 5 Brothers.

    Introducing Friends to Pipe Smoking

A couple years ago I was on a camping trip with my wife. We were sitting around a campfire and I was doing what I always do around a fire, smoking my pipe. A young couple walked by with their dog, and I noticed that the guy was smoking a cigar. His wife remarked that she liked the smell of my...
