***What Are You Smoking, Nov. 2024?***

Sitting in the rain (under a canopy!) smoking some Esoterica Margate in a Mark Tinsky bent bulldog.

***What Are You Smoking, Nov. 2024?***

Finally got around to polishing the band on my Peterson Rosslare 120; now enjoying the shine while smoking some Irish Flake!

    English Fatigue?

I'm (sorta) moving on from English blends because my dwindling cellar of Syrian latakia has forced me to... 😅 I occasionally enjoy a good blend with the Cyprian variety but, for the most part, it's really just not the same.

Preventing Mold in 5 lb Bulk Storage? Chemistry?

I feel like splitting them up into multiple large mason jars is your best bet, although I realize that's going to get fairly expensive at this volume.

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Ah, interesting hypothesis! I actually have a Dublin Filter that was bought in England around 2011. The 999 above is not drilled for a filter, but maybe there was a non-filter sister series at one point?

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I know this is the British pipes thread, but I have seen a few Petersons posted in here, so I'm guessing that's kosher (my apologies if not!). https://www.ebay.com/itm/326309783531 The tricolour band obviously stands out and is, to my knowledge, unique to the 1998 (and 2023) SPD releases...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2024?***

Starting the evening with some Peterson My Mixture 965 in this lovely sandblasted Jerry Crawford (with an acrylic stem; one of the few I’m told!)

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

I agree with @FLDRD—if you're going to buy a Peterson, you owe it to yourself to at least try a System!

    Your Own "Best" Tobacco

    G. L. Pease Bohemian Scandal, if this is a magic desert island that can resurrect what's long dead! Otherwise probably FVF or Stonehaven.

    Tea and a Pipe

I do feel silly every time I smoke EMP at night, haha

    Tea and a Pipe

I drink a lot of tea, almost exclusively loose leaf Chinese black teas, and it's probably the perfect drink pairing with just about any tobacco blend. If you want a specific recommendation, Lapsang Souchong and Keemun are exceptionally good smoking companions due to their almost tobacco-like...

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

I only smoke acrylic-stemmed pipes and have gone so far as to have custom replacement stems cut for pipes that I couldn’t resist owning but came with a stock vulcanite stem. As with everyone else, for me it’s the no-nonsense maintenance; I hate the weird sulphuric taste of an oxidized vulcanite...

Enjoying an afternoon work break with MacBaren’s Mixture: Scottish Blend in this lovely little Peterson System Deluxe 12.5 (thanks SmokingPipes.com estate sale, you got me again!)

    Unique Peterson - Identification Help

I could understand some variation in whether "St Patrick's Day" got stamped or not, but using two completely different brand representations (the "A Peterson Product" stamp on all the 1998s I've seen vs. "Peterson's Dublin" on that eBay example) in a single time-limited release seems very weird...

What Are Your Top Five Pipe Accessories?

I didn't take it as disparaging at all! I also prefer to keep things simple and, for me at least, a good pipe roll does just that—by keeping everything (pipe, tobacco, tamper, matches, cleaners) all in one place when traveling, so it's easy to grab and nothing gets left behind.

    Archer Pipes- Oregon

That's a nice pipe! What's going on with that ring cut into the shank?
