Please Educate Me on Dress Pipes

Dress pipes were a "big deal" in the past. The history is interesting and worth a read. In summary, there was a need for all black pipes to be worn with evening dress attire (think Tuxedo or black suit and tie events). Usually employed on Opera pipes and billiard pipes. And it is very (very)...

PSA: Jar Your Samuel Gawith Boxes

I do the same now. Just put the 250 gram box in a mylar bag and seal it. In the past I used to put all 250 gram tobacco in mason jars, but that gets heavy and takes up much storage space.

    Curly Block Now From Wessex

After smoking the Wessex Curly Block for over a week I have decided ... I Like It! It is a very good tobacco and I believe it will age very well. This blend has a nutty burley that plays a great supporting role to the earthy Virginia and there is less perique than the Heinrich’s version. This...

    Curly Block Now From Wessex

I got the Wessex Donkey logs today. It is TOTALLY different than Peter Heinrich’s version. I am sure this one has Burley in it, and there’s a funny topping. Lesser quality Virginia for sure. Again, it is completely different and not as good. I think the original is going to become urban legend...

Would You Buy a Semi-Handmade Former For $530?

Another important point (not to be overlooked or understated): the Former rusticated apple is immediately identified from across the room or in public. Thus, it has become a status symbol in the Asian market for that reason, similar to any rare high end brands. That certainly drives the market...

Would You Buy a Semi-Handmade Former For $530?

Have you ever heard of a Rolex Steel Daytona? The Former rusticated apple is similar. It is lower cost to make but very hard to find one, thus the market drives the price. I have 9 total Former apples in my collection and all are high end 100% hand made except the rusticated apple that I got in...

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

I used a 21mm manual focus lens with magnifier adapter. I literally had the lense touching the tobacco to get >1:1 reproduction. When done correctly the detail is amazing and you can visualize the micro crystals and even wrinkles in the tobacco parts. Sooooo coooool.

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

I had a similar experience. I knew it was going to be cellared deep and it is kinda sorta hard to find. Not impossible, but it does require some leg work. I kept my passion for the blend to myself until I had stocked up enough to satiate my stash goal.

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

It is indeed delicious if smoked slowly (and of you like this style of pipe tobacco). It’s heavenly to me.

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

Yes these are natural sugars. A pal and I have looked up the German data sheets on tobacco blends (it is German law that these be posted). According to the data, Latakia/Commodore Flake is nearly full natural tobacco with no detectable added sugars.

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

It is indeed a lovely blend. The Kentucky adds balance and depth imho.

    Tobacco Crystals High Resolution

McConnell’s Latakia Flake and Sillem’s Commodore Flake are essentially the same blend. They are my favorite tobacco. The are truly wonderful with a few years of age. The blend is best sipped at a glacial pace (very very very slowly) and preferably indoors. There is a wonderful floral incense...

That is a wonderful 7 day set my friend! I am proud of your focus here and it sure paid off. Lovely stuff.

    My Sun Bear Review

I agree. I opened my first tin of Sunbear after it sat for a year. And I let it rest a few days after opening (as I've learned to do with C&D tobacco blends). It is very good. I grabbed more recently when it dropped again.

    Finally a Nic Hit

Yep. I love the stuff. Very nice Nic hit for a someone (like me and you) that has high tolerance to nicotine.

I'm Needing Some Help w/GH&C Cherry Blends

I smoke Top Black Cherry with Virgil’s Black Cherry soda very (very) often. One of my favorite combinations.
