Looking to touch up an "Oxblood" color pipe

Yes Larry, have heard of this too. For me on those old oxbloods its been that rust colour that comes through the mahogany and fiebing's dye or calcine just doesn't achieve that but when you see blood spilt when killing an animal you see that reaction of the blood with the air on a surface and...

Looking to touch up an "Oxblood" color pipe

This made me think. I always wondered why the new iterations never look like the old oxblood pipes from days of yore. The colours are close but there is always a quality lacking and your post was the epiphany for me. Its the oxidation of the oxblood on the meerschaum which gives it that colour...

Show Off Your Castello Pipes Here!

So two types exist to my eye. The more modern version is the bottom one and has a velvet/napped look and feel and the older type is the top, feel and texture is like chamois leather. I think that given your pipe is Scotti era the older chamois leather look is the most logical but either will...

NPD - Castello Sea Rock Shape 32 KK

I have one Castello with a very tight tenon and I am always careful with it and graphite powder or a lead pencil makes it glide in if I remove it, no need for force.

Las Vegas Intl Pipe Show 2025

Dave I was looking at this picture of Carlo and I couldn't help but notice that the bamboo shanked pipes on his desk show a remarkable similarity to your recent acquisition, especially the second pipe in. The bowl colour, distance from bit to first knuckle of the bamboo, overall length, case...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2025?***

This pipe is very intriguing, love the finish, very clever. A pipe made out of 1000 year old wood should look like this, quite the homage.
