“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

I don't hate Peterson pipes but I do feel the "system" is nothing more than a marketing scam to make them "different" and sell them to gullible pipe buyers (boos and hisses are welcome). No pipe should need a well to catch moisture. If a pipe is smoking that wet there is either a problem with...

“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

Of course there is a quality sort done when the blocks are sorted be the harvester. That's how it's determined what the buyer will pay. But you have to understand that the situation can change every time you make a mark on the block. What looks like it's going to be a prefect straight grain...

    Good Photos

The best straight grain I ever saw. It's an Anne Julie and this rather poor Polaroid photo was taken in the late 1980s.

    Cellar Labels using AI

Pretty fancy labels ! I have quite a few Mason jars filled with bulk tobacco. So I know what's what, I put labels on them. I just take a piece of white scrap paper and write by hand something like this in pretty small letters, cut it out with scissors and stick in on the jar with Scotch Tape...

“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

Amazing! It looks to me like this thread started as a tribute to Dunhill, but has now evolved into Dunhill trashing. Makes me wonder if I could make money with an anti-Dunhill web site. I need to check if: dunhillbitesthebigone.com is taken... puffy

How would you fix this crack?

For extra wide cracks I use a turkey baster. nnnn

How would you fix this crack?

Fill it with super glue and rub a little black cake from the bowl on it while still wet. Let it dry overnight. puffy

    Can Anyone Identify This One?

Interesting post. I've not seen on before. puffy

I think i posted it elsewhere but... I also made a Lucite stem for a Dunhill once. Even was able to do the white dot by using a white plastic toothpick. Hate to admit it, but as I remember it my white dot was a smidgen smaller than the original. Who cares? puffy

“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

Interesting post. I picked up a new Castello a few months ago and I just compared the size of the buttons and thickness etc. with some of my 60 year old Castellos. They're the same. How big a stem's button should be is kind of a matter of taste. As for me, I would not let that stop me from...

“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

I'm surprised. I guess there are not as many Dunhill fans out there as I thought. I expected at least some feedback and possibly even a little hostility. Maybe it's just that the Dunhill people consider me and my opinions of no matter... I know my wife does. puffy

“The Rake” On YouTube: Recent Tour Of The Dunhill White Spot Factory in London

A few thought about the Dunhill video. First, let me say I am not anti-British. My last name (which is not Fan) can be traced back to 12th century Cornwall and my great grandfather was born in London. Unlike some pipe smokers I don't choose my pipes based on racial heritage. "We do it this...

In the first minute of the video the narrator says: hahau "the best pipes in the world are still made in our capital city of London" Good one! I haven't laughed so hard since the pigs ate Little Willie.... puffy

    Mason jar price increase

Ball and Mason jars are dirt cheap if you know where to look. Garage, yard and estate sales. puffy

I’ll admit it’s a little juvenile, but I picked up my first meerschaum at the Columbus pipe show last weekend.

I bought a sexy meerschaum nude at a show once. I ate it before I got home. puffy

    Professor Plum

Over a hundred years ago stage actor William Gillette played the role of Sherlock on the stage. He found that a regular pipe was too small and difficult for the people in the back rows to see, so he changed his prop pipe to a calabash. The image of Sherlock with a calabash has stuck to this...

Smoking Sessions - Splitting up a bowl

I posted this a while back in another thread, but I think it might be appropriate here too. Talk about cheap! I can be a real Scrooge when I want to. When my ash tray gets full I take it out in the back yard, check the wind direction, then pore the contents into a kitchen strainer. I shake it...

    How much do you cellar?

I must be sick! I need all that tobacco and stuff the guy offered to sell me like I need a spine crushing injury, but I find myself thinking and wanting to buy it. I'm beginning to think that increasing your stash can become addictive. I have plenty already, but I just can't resist the chance to...
