    Not the stain... the shellac. Look it up. p.s. If you want to touch up a black pipe's finish, ink from the permanent marker or fountain pen ink can work well. puffy

    Take a smooth pipe without flaws but no nice grain. Stain with red covered by black alcohol based stains, give it a nice coating of button shellac, buff to high polish, and you have a Perla Nera. puffy

    I don't know about "consensus", but I find that the high grade Italian makes smoke English best. Of course, if you only have one pipe and can't rest it very much, I find a meerschaum is hard to beat. puffy

    Most people use the word "hoard" like it's a bad thing. I'm not sure, but I would guess I have enough tobacco "hoarded" to last me at least 5 years at my present rate. I don't consider it hoarding, but rather a hedge against inflation and tariffs. Simply a good investment. puffy
