Cellar Noob PSA: Bulk vs. Tins vs. Jars

Ive got the room, but ive been concentrating on tins as of late. I have many, many pounds of bulk jarred up from the last 25+ years. But my tin purchases were usually just to buy one or two tins of a blend, smoke them, and move on. The last year ive concentrated heavily on tin acquisition...

Stupid Things You Notice About Yourself?

Here is a thing that bugs my wife about me. I tend to buy new things, then avoid using the new thing so it doesn't wear out. Years ago I bought a new pair of leather Adidas, I forget the name, the black ones with the 3 white stripes...very popular classic Adidas. After about a decade she asked...

    A Perfect P-Lip Stem

Im not sure. But I have seen and owned other older Petes with a thinner, more narrow bit. Again, that may be the difference between the small group 2 or so straight Billiard, and the much larger, bent pipes ive bought recently....System XL315 and Sherlock Watson. The stems are much thicker, so...

    A Perfect P-Lip Stem

I much prefer the P-lip on my straight Billiard from the 1930s over the ones on my two recent ones from 2024. The old one is thinner and more narrow. Its not a huge deal, but noticeable.

    Movie Music

In the movie Battleship, the scene when the WW2 vets fire up the USS Missouri to destroy the aliens after the aliens destroy a bunch of Destroyers....and "Thunderstruck" from AC-DC starts playing gives an old soldier like me goose bumps. Yep, im a sap. :) Speaking of Radiohead, we about gave...

Stupid Things You Notice About Yourself?

I had my 21 year old niece call me immature the other day. She's so extra!

    Cloves

I occasionally buy a pack of Clove cigarettes, usually Djarum Splash or Black, when getting my monthly dip rations from the reservation. I USUALLY dont inhale them, but nobody's perfect. :) They taste marvelous.

Is It Really Necessary To Rotate Pipes? My Opinion!

I dont generally smoke back to back, but its 100% because I like variety. I have in the past smoked one pipe several times in a day with no issues. I do often chain smoke a MM Diplomat while hanging out and BBQing with friends. Mainly due to laziness than anything else.

    Wind caps

I have a Medico Magnet top. Its a cap and tamper. You push down the button on top to tamp. Its pretty ingenious, but I rarely use it. Im not sure its a wind cap per se, but keeps the tobacco in the pipe. This is not my pipe, just one I found online. Mine is the same, but a Pot shape.

Old pipe. Could it be a Namiki?

Japanese is difficult to translate into English. This may be a pipe which a Namiki artist put the gold writing on as a sample of their work. The "Reviewer Namiki" could be more of a "Namiki up for review", as in a sample for review for Dunhill executives. Just a thought.

    Beginner Questions

Pipe smoking is something that takes a bit of time to get proficient at. Many new smokers give up due to some of the issues you're having. Keep up with it, its worth it. Generally you want to error on the side of a lighter packing, versus a tight packing. Tight packing can cause a hot pipe...

    Funny Ebay scams

As an FFL, I deal with places like Gunbroker, Guns dot com, Grab A Gun, Buds, Sportsman Warehouse Shoot Smart.... Some are better than others, but Gunbroker is a hassle all the way around. Because unlike when buying new, where you can send defective firearms back to the manufacturer yourself...

    Funny Ebay scams

I only wanted specific lengths of specific patterns for knife lanyards. I probably have well over 1000 feet of cord around the house, but none of what I wanted. The thing with paracord is the less you want, the more expensive it is sometimes. $5.40 for multiple lengths of multiple patterns is...

    Funny Ebay scams

Ive never had an issue with ebay. I often go there to save on shipping costs. But im very careful which vendors I use. I just recieved 30 feet of high quality 550 cord for under $6. I have no idea how the guy makes money. It got to me in 4 days.

    Gawith flavor

I jarred 6 ounces of Bob's Chocolate in 2017, just before I stopped piping for 7 years. Sinse Spring 2024 I have smoked about 4 ounces of it. It still tastes the same to me. I never really got a strong chocolate flavor, aside from the the cocoa notes I get from the Burley. I've been told the...

What Kind Of Pipe Purchaser Are You?

I used to be a straight guy. Now I go both ways. So much wrong with both of those sentences. :( Anyways, my last couple pipes, both new Petersons, are heavily bent. And my favorite pipe shape of all time is the GBD 9456, also a full bent.

What Kind Of Pipe Purchaser Are You?

We sell a ton of Rough Rider SSA 22lr for between $130 and $250. As low as $119 during sales. The rifles and Ranch Hands can get up to $600-$700, but we dont stock those because they dont sell. The reason I offer around $400 for a sporterized Garand is because there is only a very select group...

    Over-Aged Pipe Tobacco

Wow, finally another piper who doesn't agree with the "aged Latakia is horrible" thing. Thats a bit harsh, there are a lot of us. As with any genre, some blends I prefer fresh, and some I prefer with some age. The one thing I will say, Latakia blends always hold up for me. Yes, the Latakia can...

    Over-Aged Pipe Tobacco

Ive never experienced tobacco becoming terrible. According to Greg Pease, Virginia tobacco reaches its peak at about 10 years. From there it doesn't get worse, it just doesn't change much more. Ive been jarring tobacco sinse about 2005. I recently opened a jar of MacBaren Va#1 from 2008. I then...

What Kind Of Pipe Purchaser Are You?

I figured id post a few of the budgets ive bought in recent years. The most expensive was the red Civivi with the San Mei Damascus blade ($85). The least expensive are 2 that were $30.....the Miguron Norsa (4th down, left column) and the CJRB Acacia (second from bottom, left column.
