***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

The meer I named Emina, and some Mad Fiddler Flake I just opened with nearly two years of age on it. Accidental age - bought in in '23, then put it on the shelf "to open later, after I finish a couple opens".

Fired up Grandpa's Pipe For the First Time...

Grandpa had a handsome piece! Packing is the bit that takes the most learning. Well, packing and pacing - three years in I still puff fast enough that my briars get uncomfortably hot fairly frequently.

Must try Tabacco for a person that likes cult Blood Red Moon

I haven't tried any of them myself (yet) but I've heard some good things about Boswell's aromatics. Mostly Christmas Cookie. There are (or were, depending if STG killed them all) other aromatics under the Cult banner, which I assume would be at about the same level of quality. Got a tin of...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

You got me curious. Apparently they cure the sap for about a day, turning it into a polymer, which sufficiently traps the rash-poison such that only the most sensitive of individuals are affected by lacquer.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Urushi. Bottom half Shandygaff, top half HH Bold Kentucky.

How to Smoke a Full Bowl Without Altering the Taste?

Use a very very small bowl so it only lasts you like ten puffs.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Having finished a Toscano Brenta (Italian Habano, who'd've thought?) purchased as lounge admission, I'm onto pipe now. Finishing up Ryback in the billiard meer. To drink: I've got some Thai milk tea from Hangry Joe's (lychee pop boba in the bottom, not as good as lychee jelly) and a gin-n-soda...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Meer of some slightly-crispy Sillem's Green which I originally opened like two years ago, topped off with a bit of HH Bold Kentucky that was dry and unburned in the bottom of the bowl after my last smoke.

What's behind the name for Sillem's Mayor 1814 Flake?

My guess is it's either just a cool name or something obscure reference to whoever was mayor of Sillem's hometown in 1814. Like, "Yeah this guy traveled all of Holstein and won every drinking contest while he was in office" or something.

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

Today's cigar lounge "admission fee", before I start polluting the air with pipe smoke. This silly lookin' thing. Which is supposedly a Davidus exclusive. Now, this is my second Rocky Patel and I've quite liked them both. Maybe it's just a diabolical subconscious influence from watching old...

Cornell & Diehl Tobacco - Recommendations?

I've a jar of "Mintzantium" now. Which is of course Byzantium seasoned with peppermint schnapps. I recall it being quite good a year or two ago, when I first experimented with flavoring off-the-shelf baccy.

Urushi, with Shandygaff. I suppose it would be thematically appropriate to dedicate my most oriental pipe to Oriental blends, though apparently most of what they grow in Japan are Burley varieties. So maybe this object of art ought to be my Burley pipe.

    Favorite Whole Album

Stan Rogers, Turnaround and Fogarty's Cove D'oyly Carte Opera Company (60s), Patience and, of course, from my day in the Confederate army at Gettysburg (reenactors had a spare set of gear and liked my beard, asked if I'd care to join them): Second South Carolina String Band, Southern Soldier I...

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

Decided to buy a cigar while I was getting more tea at the lounge. The color (relatively dark and a big shiny green band) and price (~$15) appealed to me, so I went with this thing here. Rocky Patel Emerald. A couple puffs in, I'm a fan so far. Kinda earthy.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Popped a tin of Pipe Force Episode III. My first thought on looking at it: "It's a War Horse!" (which is apparently what I call crumble cake sort things), only to swiftly discover it was actually three very large flakes stacked on top of each other. A fine smoke, glad to have a couple extra...

Moving to Burley Blends - Advice Needed!

Having not tried Pegasus, I'll dissent from the chorus and recommend Crooner. Cube-cut Burley and wholesome, natural, pipe-ghosting deertongue grass. I haven't tried Boswell's Premium Burley, but Mr. Boswell makes a fine pipe and both of the two Boswell blends I've tried (Englishes- Titus and...

    Not Hollywood Boulevard

Let me put it this way: Patrick McGoohan went into hiding for at least a week after "Fall Out" aired, because several people showed up at his house complaining about the ending. Legend has it that for those last two episodes, Patrick and The Actor For #2 (don't recall his name) got so into...

Rivertown Bulk Tobacco is Live on Smoking Pipes

I like the sound of this because I like DFK and because fifteen years ago I played Horde on World of Warcraft. Zug Zug. Lok'tar!

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Finishing off my ounce of Haunted Bookshop in the Aizu-e. To be followed probably by a Blue in Green cigar.

    Tobbaco recommendations

A chef at a cigar lounge once smelled my Byzantium and said he wanted to use some to smoke meats. I always get a note of good mulch when I smell it.
