    Lighter Recommendations?

Speaking of cigars, what do you think of the Curivari brand, if you've smoked any?

    Lighter Recommendations?

Nor me. I value non-scorched lips. Crazy, I know.

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

This is my first pipe from them, and it smokes really well. The draft is nearly ideal, in my opinion. I like the cannonball model, too.

Luxury Bullseye Flake Prepped Perfectly in Less Than 30 Seconds (Pictoral)

I used to use one of those miniature mezzaluna blades to chop up flake tobacco, but ever since one of my kids broke the blade screwing around with it, I've just been breaking it up by hand. I hadn't thought of one of these - great idea!

    Lighter Recommendations?

I don't doubt that the IM is a good lighter - I have a Kiribi that was given to me as a gift, and I love it...but I frankly would never have paid for it myself. That's not a knock on it, as it has functioned flawlessly, but it's just not the sort of thing I'm willing to pay much for.

    Lighter Recommendations?

You’re right, of course, and there have been times when I kicked myself for an expensive pipe purchase when I know that I would enjoy the smoke as much from a cheap MM cob as from a choice meerschaum or briar.

    Lighter Recommendations?

    Priceless is what that is!

    Lighter Recommendations?

I’d never actually seen a price list for their Old Boy models until just now. For that tariff, I’d want the lighter to light my pipe without my intervention, and then deliver a glass of Tullamore Dew to me right after!

    Lighter Recommendations?

If you intend to mainly smoke in the out of doors, Zippo pipe lighter all the way.

    Flake. Just The Best.

Newminster No. 400 Flake is my usual day smoke. It packs and burns beautifully.

    Flake. Just The Best.

One thing that has seemed to help me over time while learning the mechanics of smoking a pipe is to "twist" the tobacco packed into the chamber. As I pack in the 'baccy, I use a thumb to gently rotate each layer in the same direction (clockwise, in my case). One of my uncles showed me that...

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

I have a couple of tins winging their way to me now. I hate (and love) this hobby sometimes!

Cornell & Diehl Carolina Red Flake w/ Perique: First Impressions

Let us know what you think about it after you’ve had a bowl or two.

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

I smoked another bowl in it this evening, and the odd taste was still present, but seems to have diminished a bit - so you may be right.

Cornell & Diehl Carolina Red Flake w/ Perique: First Impressions

I was thinking about buying a tin or two and putting it down for a year or so. Nice review!

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

If a few more smokes don’t ameliorate the issue, I’ll certainly do that.
  17. marlinspike

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

It certainly didn’t have a boggy taste that I’ve read some people describe. I don’t know that I could even describe it, other than to say it was a taste I’ve never had from a cob, meerschaum, or briar. I don’t intend to give up on it - it smokes admirably well! I just hope this tinge of...

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

Just one bowl at the moment. I bought it directly from the Briarworks site. It doesn’t appear that the workshop coated the bowl’s interior. I’m pretty impressed with it overall, and would be interested to try another of their models someday.

First Smoke in a Briarworks/Moonshine Morta

I've never owned a morta pipe, and recently bought a "Devil Anse" Moonshine model from Briarworks. The build quality is very respectable, and I found the draw on this pipe to be pretty near ideal. I wanted to start with the tobacco I tend to enjoy most - Newminster No. 400 - and see how it...

    Corona Old Boy Lighters

When I got back into puffing, I bought a butane pipe lighter insert for my old Zippo brass case (some 20-odd years old), but a kind relative made me a gift of a Kiribi (the chromed art deco-style model, whose name escapes me at the moment). The Kiribi has performed flawlessly since I received...
