Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake First Impressions

The old label: "Dark brown Virginia, full bodied and smooth" The new label: "A fairly strong, dark Virginia Flake, which is promising a special seasoning in the English tradition, which is created by the aroma of the Virginia tobacco, dark fired Kentucky and a full-bodied Perique" Go figure!

Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake First Impressions

Anyone have thoughts on the new stuff, versus the stuff from say, 5 years ago? The labels have very different descriptions, and would lead one to believe them to be a different blend.

Smoking the Same Bowl the Next Day

Personally, I think cigars taste terrible when left for more than an hour and then relit. Pipes on the other hand, I have had good experiences when relit. Sometimes improved flavours as well.

We Americans live in Pipe Tobacco Nirvana

September 1st every year brings another tobacco duty hike here in Australia. The current duty rate is now $1079 per kg.... Plus GST tax! This will make a 50g tin of tobacco about $95 Tobacco consumers are easy targets here.... The government ostracize us, tax us to death.... and the general...

Questions about FDA Banning Online sales

Can any other organisation, other than the FDA, jump in and cause problems?

    4 NOGGINS & CANADIANS

Speaking about it as openly as this doesn't make the cause easier.... It's extraoridinarily foolish to speak about it so openly that you may as well just email customs directly and ask them what method of shipping they are less likely to intercept. Let's start a thread in Bold text, and use a...

Cellaring...How Much Should a Person Cellar?

I'm cellaring based on what I expect my future weight to be when my metabolism slows down and I become more sedentary in later years.

    Resealing an Opened Tin

Thanks very much for the reply, Sir. I've got a canister that Sunbeam made, I'll give it a go and report back! Should be very interesting.

    Resealing an Opened Tin

Craiginthecorn, this is very interesting, and thanks for sharing. I recently had some tims arrive that were open and was thinking about how to seal the, as I bought the, to cellar for many years. How tightly would you say that you screwed the tin lid on before you applied the vacuum? Super...

    Samuel Gawith Majorly Different

I was thinking one of my 250g St James Flake boxes was blended to dark - the Perique seemed like it was added way to liberally. Even when I opened the box, the flakes were almost black. I smoked a bowl of it, and or was seriously intense. Another box I recieved had a far more familiar colour...

Beware...pin holes in tins. Cardboard tins.

Thanks for the info, Jack. Well played, Sir. Oh well, I guess I'm going through the cellar and checking all my tins. Fingers crossed no casualties, as I really didn't plan on having to jar anything up!

Beware...pin holes in tins. Cardboard tins.

Aren't the Rattrays 100gram tins similar? Do they have many failures? I hope not as I cellared deep on these... I'd be mortified if I went to them in 10 years and they were dust!

    Samuel Gawith at Smoking Pipes

You're suggesting the scarcity (at least in the US) is not real? Every online retailer has had bare shelves for months. And those who did get stock in recently sold out in hours.

I'd suggest they are passing on across the board increases. Globally, all tobacco has gone up. When the euro tobacco comes back into stock, expect increases there too.

    Tamp While Lighting

I'll definitely try it... But fear my pipes would suffer for the attempt. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to light and tamp at the same time, while not having my pipe in hand.... And not coordinated enough to hold and tamp a pipe with one hand!

    Purchasing Question

I agree with the above posts.... But in this particular case, with ODF..... Most people love it and there's a good chance you will too.... Buy the larger !!

Experience With Squadron Leader with Perique?

Yep, got the Presbyterian email. I'd say a glich in the system this time around. :(

Experience With Squadron Leader with Perique?

I also didn't get the email, and I have a silver badge. I recieved an email for Amohora on sale, and not the special release. Pretty annoying, especially given they are now being sold by flippers on eBay... Should be in the hands of enthusiasts, not profiteers.

    Pipe Lighters?

I use a soft flam BBQ lighter I bought from Costco. You know, the ones it's the flexible, long reach end. $6 for 3 of them. Never ever had a problem, works every time, and I leave one everywhere I smoke.
