I wouldnt be too aggresive on wiping out your cake, pre carb is to help you build a cake easier, not replace it. You still want to build a cake, its better to have a decent one. Opinions on breaking in a pipe
The thirds way is probably your best bet. Personally i dont like the honey method, not trying to offend anyone, its just not my cup of tea. I have (an unconfirmed) belief that when you use honey the cake ends up too soft and crumbly. Id stick with the thirds method, but just smoking it will...- jchaplick

Pipe Cleaners?
I use bj long, just because its whats in stock, doesnt really matter too me, i have actually been on the lookout for craft stores that carry real pipe cleaners and uses "soft plain" as the label, i remember seeing them as a child, and they were sold for 4 dollars for about 300, really looking...- jchaplick

I'm Smoking Glue In My Pipe.
ive had the glue in the bottom before, i heated up a needle got it out -
An interesting idea for a tamper...
I used to use a 223 case that was spent, then i cut the flat head off of a pipe nail, and epoxyed it in, so i had the end of the bullet for a tamper and the end of the pipe nail sticking out for a scrapper. Was pretty neat till i ran it over with my truck by accident- jchaplick

Can you tell what/if there's anything wrong with this pipe?
It looks like they tried to clean the stem and didnt finish doing it with a finer grit medium. Just needs to be buffed, you can do it pretty easily with a non quilted paper towel like viva, and toothpaste, follwed by olive oil -

Smell Transfer?
Do the salt cleanse until it doesnt come out brown anymore, and use a extra thick pipe cleaner with alcohol in the shank and stem until that doesnt come out brown. Then smoke some PA for a few bowls and it should be good -

Yeah, keep going, It takes a couple smokes, maybe try and get a corn cob, and a couple other blends, try all three types, a Virginia a aromatic and an english, It should help you find what styles you like and then you can go from there Welcome, and good luck- jchaplick
