    Pulled the trigger again

Excellent choice! Sinan's Pipes have been in my modest collection for years and deliver fine smoking pleasures. Yes, these Pipes have been taking the lunch money for a long time. You have the right sing the Blues. At least you'll be smoking a great Pipe on the way to the poor house. The...

    Frustration !!!!

Yes, I agree with you Buck67. Keeping a beverage handy while smoking is a good idea, and so obvious that we have ignored mentioning it. For me, cold spring water, ice tea and coffee are good choices, A dry mouth can be a big factor not being able to enjoy the smoke due to 'bite.'

You are welcome excav8tor. African Block Meerschaums are sturdy, calcined Block and most people treat them like they would a Briar and don't pay much attention to cleaning them. For me, what works is a sharp blunt tipped knife to scrape the cake build up, Everclear, shank brush and plenty...

    Meerschaum Identification...?

The identification of Meerschaum Pipes has been a challenge for a long time and for many reasons. In part, the relative obscurity of this cottage industry, which has an almost medieval guild character, combined with a lack of organization and documentation is the cause. The practice of...

    Frustration !!!!

The most common culprit of 'bite' is chemical, which is something that I've heard for many years and believe. For me, there are popular blends that are a blowtorch for me, despite widespread lack of my experiences. Another cause is moisture content of the blend, as a high moisture content...

Do you use pipe screens. Why or why not?

I use them infrequently on some of my older Pipes that are getting a bit thin in the bottom of the bowl. A friend in the UK got me onto this practice, which I find a bit easier than using load stones.

Thanks guys, but I haven't got a clue on this one... Back in the '60's and early '70's, it was common to have B&M's carry their own 'brand' of Meerschaums. The range in quality of these Pipe went from African Block (like this one) to Turkish Block to Pressed Block. Everyone got into the...

    Cigar Leaf

Yes, this type of remixing of blends is done frequently. It would be best to start with small batches in order to discover what ratio of Cigar leaf to add to a blend that is best in your taste profile. This should be done with use of a scale and for me, 10:1 is the highest ratio I like.
