    Pipe Smoking and Cancer

Nicotine is a low grade nootropic. Nothing to write home about but macrodosing with it will get you disqualified from chess tournaments as they have found it has the potential to give people a small edge.

    Pipe Smoking and Cancer

There's something therapeutic about watching the smoke gently swirl and blowing smoke rings.

    Supporting Local Shops

I would love to support my local B&Ms but I live in a college town with half a dozen of them and they all just carry cigarettes, bongs, glass pipes, cheap cigars that are intended to be split open and RYO tobacco. Only 2 shops actually carry pipe tobacco but it's all pouches of half&half, SWR...

How and Why do you Clench?

I am broken and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to retrohale while clenching. Whenever I try I only get a portion of the smoke to go out my nose, the rest goes out through the pipe. I regularly take a puff and then have to remove the pipe in order to retrohale. Any tips?

How and Why do you Clench?

I am a clencher as well, always have been. I just feel the need to chomp down on the bit even if I am holding the pipe, it just feels right to me. 86.4% of my smoking is done in my car and if you see my car in motion, 92.3% of the time i will be clenching. All my pipes are fitted with rubber...

    Saving Dottle for Smoking Later?

If you try it, be warned, the nicotine content will be significantly higher and not all combinations are always pleasant ie: just because you like x, y and z doesn't nescessarily mean you will like an xyz combo. But rest assured if you hit a bad patch it will leave quick as it came. To be...

Blends To Start Your Friends On

Depends on how much I like them, if they have smoked any tobacco products before and what their thoughts on it was. Probably briar fox if I like them. Brown twist if I don't.

    Saving Dottle for Smoking Later?

I will admit it does have a certain resin-y and heavy quality to it kind of like cigar leaf all the way through. But its not too bad. Its very similar to relighting a bowl you smoked half of and let sit for a few hours. The flavors meld and kind of evolve because you essentially lightly...

    Saving Dottle for Smoking Later?

Yep, I do, that was my post. I very well might be the only one. Not for everyone I will admit. Always an interesting smoke though.

    Pipe Smoking and Cancer

And furthermore I'd bet the study didn't take into account other exposures to toxins, genetics predisposition, diet, lifestyle or occupation. And as mentioned by an earlier post, smokers tend to be more risk tolerant. So without knowing what else these people do or don't do we have no way of...

    Pipe Smoking and Cancer

Another important fact that is rarely ever mentioned in these types of studies is that while genes and carcinogens do load the "cancer gun" it's diet, lifestyle and lack of excersize that pull the trigger. When you consider all the chemicals and carcinogens we are bombarded with in modern life...

    Tobacco in the UK

I live in the US so I don't know much about UK shops but if I had to put together a list of the top 10 pipe tobaccos I have tried, half of them would be Gawith blends and they're manufactured in the UK. I also hear good things about condor and revor, but can't get those easily in the US. Sorry...

    Jim's 50th Pipe Smoking Anniversary.

Congratulations on the anniversary. And I must say, I have only been smoking for a few years but I am extremely appreciative of all your posts on tobaccoreviews. When I am debating a purchase or I feel like I am missing something in a blend, I will head over there and see what you thought of...

    Pipe Shape Preferences Over Time

In the beginning I had no idea what I liked. Over the past couple years I have gravitated towards billiards. I like billiards, particularly with thinner walls, as I have a habit of smoking too hot particularly when I am reading or playing chess. I find some other shapes can mask how hot I'm...

Question on Last 3rd of the Bowl

If the bottom 1/3 of my bowl goes out I toss the dottle in the "mystery jar" and give it a stir. Every once in a while when I am significantly vitamin N deficient I will pack up a bowl of dottle mixture. Always provides a heavy, intriguing and rather pensive smoke. I don't mess around with...

Is there a general consensus on what blend a new piper should start on?

Make sure it's not too moist. Pinch some of it, pick it up and then drop it. If it stays clumped together it is too moist, in that case pull out a little more than you think will pack your pipe and spread it out on a clean surface to dry for 5-20min depending on how moist it is. Also if you...

Is there a general consensus on what blend a new piper should start on?

Warehouse... the starting wage is less than McDonald's and Walmart so we get all their "throwaways" that can't cut it there. I have tried to leave multiple times but in the time I have worked there I have more than doubled my wage and they keep giving me more money, so I keep chewing on my...

Is there a general consensus on what blend a new piper should start on?

Yea, I get your point about bagpipes, I have seen numerous other posts from multiple users on the forum correcting people. I saw an opportunity to throw it out again and I took it, it was all in jest, apologies. The whole "piping" thing seems to be an annoyance of quite a few here. I had never...

Is there a general consensus on what blend a new piper should start on?

It's all good, it's kind of a running inside joke amongst us pipers.
