    Bob's Chocolate Flake

Eddie, Judging by the last 50 tobacco reviews on BCF, most people comment that the Virginias are in the lead - especially with their natural sweetness. My palate is underdeveloped for the time being and I can't make anything but academic distinctions between tobaccos. I've never smoked straight...

    Bob's Chocolate Flake

I'm sitting now with a hot cup of Moroccan mint tea and reflecting over the pleasant bowl of Bob's Chocolate Flake I just finished. I haven't tried much pipe tobacco so I may be a little easy to impress; it was my first Lakeland, flake, and non-OTC smoke. Clearly, then, it was a great change of...

    Dubinthedam (aka Pierce), Welcome!

I've also enjoyed your musings. Welcome, dubinthedam.

    TAD Purchases

Thanks! I don't mind about TAD as long as my orders keep coming through and that pipe legislation dies in Congress. I'm going to get two English blends and Va/Pers apiece next time; my first foray into natural tobaccos. I'm eager to find out which kinds I'll favour.

    TAD Purchases

Got my first ever internet order today. Thank you, Rich - you were great. Waiting on some new cobs to arrive before I try my tobaccos; I want a clean start for them. I'm excited to depart from Canadian drugstore tobaccos! All aromatics this round: Gawith Hoggarth - Bob's Chocolate Flake Gawith...

    W.O, Larsen

Sorry to throw us slightly off the subject, but has anyone had W.O. Larsen's 1864 Perfect Mixture? It sounds very nice, according to the reviews... I'd love to hear an opinion or two. As for the 2011, I'm interested to see what everyone has to say!

    Dan Akroyd's Crystal Head Vodka

I actually work for the government liquor board that makes this product in Newfoundland. Crystal Head is very popular and retails in our province for just under $50, too. Not being a vodka drinker, I can't comment on its smoothness or taste. I won a bottle of this at work and exchanged it for a...

Bad Experiences With Another Pipe Smoker?

Just last night I ran into "one of our kind". He was a friendly enough older gentleman. I passed him as he was huddled in a doorway with his briar while the rain billowed down around us. I was in a hurry and needed to use the ATM inside but I remarked that it was good to see a fellow pipe...

    James Fox- Dorisco Mixture?

As soon as I receive my order that's currently in transit, I'm going to order Dorisco among others - I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for your input, Fred - its helped a lot.

The Latest Garbage & Lies from the Surgeon General

Cortez for the win! Brilliant cartoon. Lifestyle is not the sole arbiter of our lives. Some people get sick prematurely no matter what choices they make, some people see ripe old age out of dumb luck looking past eighty years of bad habits. We can't beat nature and we can't beat chance, you'd...

    Christmas Wish List

Health, of course, and continued happiness with my girlfriend, family, and life in general. Materially, I wouldn't mind some homebrewing supplies (especially some malt since my cat destroyed $50 worth after he tore into several pounds of dried extract) and I also wouldn't refuse a new pair of...

Things you see, that dont make sense, and leave your head aching?

I work in a liquor store. A student was hired last summer and now he's filling in for the Christmas season. Within minutes of our first meeting yesterday, I see the kid holding a bottle of wine and chatting with a customer. I paused for a moment and watched him stop his conversation with the...

The Latest Garbage & Lies from the Surgeon General

Most people can't think critically for a second. It's even worse if they have lots of money and no time to spend. Always looking for easy fixes. Rapidly vanishing attention spans are part of the problem; consumerism and loss of values another. But governmental/institutional misinformation and...

    James Fox- Dorisco Mixture?

Oh, sorry... I was referring to Dorisco. A lot of people comment about a noticeable amount of Latakia. Have you sensed this or do you think that that's off base?
  17. sparroa

    James Fox- Dorisco Mixture?

Fred, can you personally notice the latakia much? There seems to be some consensus on tobaccoreviews.com that its there but well integrated into the blend. Also, how would you describe its strength of nicotine and flavour? Just wondering how closely your opinion cuts to the average determined by...

Is there a proper way to smoke a bole?

Though I've watched the videos and read countless articles about packing pipes, I'm still not the best at it. I also tend to smoke hotter than I'd like, haven't got the best tobacco, and I'm usually outdoors - leads me to rush and get bitten sometimes. I'm getting better, though. Lasting longer...

    Corn Cobs

You nailed it, wolfscout. They are steady performers and they don't ask a lot in return - perfect for when conditions to smoke a pipe aren't perfect.

    First Corncob....

It takes all kinds, and you probably just might not be a cob smoker. Come back to a Missouri Meerschaum at another time and then you can say with complete certainty it's not for you. I haven't used a briar so I'm in the same boat.
