    Tin presentation and blend name

It totally influences what I purchase. To date, thanks to Customs keeping me from availing of large bulk orders, I have only bought tins. I'd rather have a little reminder left over than an empty plastic bag if I can only buy the same amount anyway. I'm no fool, I won't get roped into gimmicks...

    Havana Cuba

I hope to visit Havana before the death of Fidel Castro. I'd like to see the sights before any sort of regime change. Maybe next year. Canada has been close to Cuba for decades, that is the only advantage we have on the US when it comes to tobacco. I can't wait to saunter through the old town...

Escudo - Love at First Light

That's the one, Tommy... Sorry for not being more exact! I hope you enjoy it. Cortezattic, I saw your positive Cool Hand Fluke review on 4noggins. That influenced my desire to try it quite a bit. Would you describe CHF as being a strong smoke? I believe you indicated it was "substantial". Sounds...

Smoke Rings Cigar & Tobacco Company Opens in Vancouver Area

What he can NEVER ever offer in low prices he will have to make up for with great selection, knowledge and even greater service. If I was in the area, I would definitely support the local business with my patronage as much as possible. Taxes be damned to a degree, smokers have to reward these...

C&D Pennington Gap - Strong tobacco?

Haha, it's a little unsettling to become so disassociated from reality thanks to our kind of smoke - it's a buzz like any other, though, I guess!

    Question of Taste

I think you will be best served by staying away from the "house" tobaccos at first and that you start trying brands with a known track record. Listen to the recommendations here, followed up with your own homework on tobaccoreviews.com - skim, try to get a feel for the more popular blends. If...

Uncle Arthur, any VaPer you like better?

Escudo - Love at First Light

That's good news, hauntedmyst. I'd like to put a little aside long term in case my supply channel dries up in the near future. It's hard because at the same time I am trying to order a variety of blends to sample and discover what I like. I'm definitely going to put some tobacco capable of...

Escudo - Love at First Light

Briar Bully, Thank you so much for that suggestion - I have never considered Davidoff, so far it has been completely off my radar. I will read more about it and may pick some up soon. It sounds very appealing. Though I do think from my limited experience that I like a very noticeable perique...

C&D Pennington Gap - Strong tobacco?

1792? Maybe, though I've never had it. Pennington Gap, not a chance - I think that was just me! I want to try it again but I'm not eager to repeat that experience just yet. I will certainly pack less and go much slower. Buck I haven't bought much burley tobacco for that reason. Ever try Moe's...

    Gordon Pym

Fred, reading your praise elsewhere was one of the things that influenced me to pick up this blend as my first English. Thank you for that review. I had a second bowl of the rehydrated Gordon Pym. It was one of the best smoking experiences I've ever had; certainly one of the lowest maintenance...

Escudo - Love at First Light

Duly noted, yachtexplorer- I bet those tins are wonderful now, enjoy! I have heard nothing but good things about Escudo, and I can only agree. Anything you guys think is better than, or on par with this blend? What's a close runner up if there was none to be found? I'd love to hear more aging...

    Its just to cold

Best advice I could give you would be to dress warm, find cover, and rough it! Smoking inside is ideal for most of us but it seems there are many who don't get to do that very often, myself included. Start the countdown to the warmer days ahead.

    Gordon Pym

It seemed unusual to me, I must admit. I never read any complaints about Dan Tobacco either. I suppose it was just a bad one. You got that right, Tanless. They don't know or care too much about their product if they break a factory seal like that and put it back on the shelf. All that shows...

    What are You Reading?

I totally agree, unclearthur. I have not read a great deal about Ned the man but this book is going to drive me to research the factual side of things a little more. It's been an addictive read so far. I have always been very interested in outlaws and highwaymen, rapparees and gunslingers...

    Question of Taste

Not to be unhelpful, but I don't know if I've ever had that experience from smoking a pipe. There is a lingering taste of smoke with every blend I've ever had, but it's not unpleasant in the sense that you've just described. With a clean pipe I usually just have an aftertaste of whatever flavour...

C&D Pennington Gap - Strong tobacco?

I have wondered about Gentleman Caller when I was browsing the C&D tobaccos. Something intrigues me about deer tongue, I hope I enjoy the taste. It sounds very pleasant and I like that it is traditional. Seems like people love it or hate it, though. Try Pennington Gap if you ever get a chance. I...

Escudo - Love at First Light

Strongirish, I've been planning on doing that, actually. How long do you think Escudo could age well? I'm on my first tin but considering ordering several to put away for years down the road. I figure I might as well cellar what I really like before ordering new brands that will be hit or miss -...

    What are You Reading?

True History of the Kelly Gang - Peter Carey. It is an excellent book; eminently readable. The author's vision of Ned Kelly, Aussie bushranger, really comes to life. I'm only a third of the way through but its going really well. By the same writer, I'd also recommend Jack Maggs. It's a reworking...
