One of the reasons I smoke a pipe

Imagine the kind of hot water you'd be in if you gave up the pipe. ;)

    Tobacco from England

Is St Bruno Flake easy to get or is it just the Ready Rubbed? Seamus, what are your preferences among those listed? As well, do they sell any kind of Capstan at all these days? BTW, pipesicle, what part of England is your daughter visiting? London itself?

    Favorite Peterson Blends?

3Ps is calling out to me but I am afraid to pull the trigger. I haven't found too many fruity tobaccos that I've enjoyed. The same thing goes for University Flake, but I am less interested in that because it is not a plug.

    Tobacco from England

If I was going over there, I'd want some Full Virginia Flake if it was readily available. There are a few pouches that I'd also be interested in picking up: -St. Bruno Flake -Mick McQuaid Plug -Player's Navy Flake Of course I would keep my eyes peeled for other notable brands but those are...

Well boys, we're still here! Erinmore here I come.

Confused as to which blend I should try

I figured that plain packaging would kill the pipe tobacco business down there. Cigarettes are one thing, because people only smoke one brand. Pipe tobacco is a different animal altogether; unfortunately, it is so small that most companies will not comply with the new regulations.

    Sam Gawith History

People on TR say lemongrass is one of the flavour notes in Grousemoor but that doesn't mean its an ingredient. I never tried the stuff myself. As well, I can't remember where I read it (maybe Christian Pipe Smokers forum) but a well informed member there seemed to believe that Full Virginia...

'The Atlantic' magazine: 'The Case Against a Smoke-Free America'

This was the best opinion piece I've seen about tobacco in the mainstream media for a long time! They usually object to taking a sane, balanced approach of moderation. Reading the comments was also a laugh and a half. One woman said that car exhaust wasn't as harmful as tobacco smoke. A gent...

    Women Pipe Smokers

Young guys often get hell for smoking a pipe, so it must be ten times worse for women. In this day and age, pipe smoking (in public anyway) is a very individualistic statment to make. A lot of negative people consider it eccentric or pretentious. The people who are intrigued by it and actually...

    Sam Gawith History

I know for sure that Sam's Flake, St James Flake, Chocolate Flake, and a few more are of very recent origin - the 2000s I believe... I was not aware of Samuel Gawith before 2008 so I don't personally remember when they were introduced.

Who likes to smoke through one blend at a time?

My jars usually seal themselves... You'll hear them if you are anywhere close by! I don't know if it is a change in temperature or air pressure but it always happens. It takes a bit of effort to pry open the seal again. mkvillaire, If you do it this way, IMO, you will always be smoking your...

    Can Smoking Make Me Sick?

Odds are if you threw up after smoking your pipe it was related to nicotine. If not, it was most likely unrelated. If a tobacco tastes so bad and offensive as to trigger your gag reflex and turn your stomach, then I can't see anybody smoking it long enough to cause you to get sick in the first...

Historically Speaking? Way out of left field here...

Briar pipes were an advance of the 19th century. This is from Iain Gately's "Tobacco": "Some years after [Napoleon's] death, a Bonapartist pilgrim to the tyrant's birthplace in Ajaccio broke his pipe and requested a passing Corsican peasant to make him another. The peasant carved the pilgrim a...

    Tongue Bite

Flyguy, I sympathize because my mouth is about ready to be written off after 2 bowls. I occasionally get tongue bite, and I have seen glimpses of this "acid burn" but I hope it is not a permanent affliction. Properly drying my blends before packing my pipe solved most of my smoking problem. I...

    Pipes and work

Just throw it in an old tin and keep it in your pocket if you'd rather pack at work - you don't need to pay for a pouch unless you feel like you need one... If you have a tobacco sold by the pouch then that also solves your problem right off the bat. ie. Prince Albert, Carter Hall, Sir Walter...

    Cob Resting???

I have never ever had good results from smoking multiple bowls in the same cob in one day. Sure, you can do it, but since I stopped doing it I've come to enjoy my cobs way more. I'd only do that if I was stuck someplace with the one pipe... I clean my cob stem and shank with a bit of alcohol...

    First time pipe smoker

Brother if you live in the USA then 4noggins/smokingpipse/pipes&cigars and other etailers can completely take care of your needs. Most also provide free shipping with a $100 order. (Which is not that hard to do) For that reason, don't fret about being far away from a brick and mortar...

Who likes to smoke through one blend at a time?

I figured that the majority would have a large rotation of blends but I'm not quite sure that that approach works for me anymore. I am happiest when I find a blend that I like that makes me crave for the next bowl; as a result, I seldom feel a need to switch up. If I get slight palate fatigue, a...
