Health Issue: Smoking Pipes or Drinking Alcohol. What's worse?

Honestly, I am more worried about the utter garbage I have eaten over the years... I think that pipe smoking has its negative effects, and I think that drinking has its negative effects, but if one practises moderation then you will probably have the best chance of balancing enjoyment with good...

    Thinking of Getting a Dog

Haha, what a bunch of comedians... Thanks for the laugh, pipeinhand. All the same, the Rhodesian Ridgebacks seem like wonderful dogs but I have concerns about the climate. It looks like they could use warmer climes than I have to offer.

SG St James Flake VS MC 2015 Virginia Flake

Forget the aromatics, they are not worth your time. Buy what you plan to smoke in the near future and consume within six months to a year. The casings are generally fairly delicate, and they dissipate before long... Samuel Gawith St. James Flake is my number two Virginia Perique blend. Its...

    Thinking of Getting a Dog

Has anyone here ever had a Rhodesian Ridgeback? I have wondered about those dogs for exactly this purpose.

    Question About Samuel Gawith Tobaccos

Gawith & Hoggarth is what you want to experience the full fledged "Lakeland" taste. Even their "unscented" tobaccos have trace amounts of the floral flavouring. (There are a few exceptions, but the majority taste that way from what I've gathered) As cigrmaster notes, most of the Samuel Gawith...

    Question About Samuel Gawith Tobaccos

1792 is not like those Lakeland blends from Gawith & Hoggarth like Ennerdale Flake, Bosun Cut Plug, et cetera. There is no floral essence - no trace of soap or perfume. The tonquin flavouring is much "darker" and closer to cocoa with a bit of extra spice thrown into than mix than anything that...

    Wessex Gold Brick

I'd take the brick out of the cellophane and cellar it in a mason jar - one brick per jar. I would also consider cutting it in half and going by 50 g increments for the same reason that roth notes above. If I could find smaller jars, I'd prefer that route. I'd rather have many small jars than a...

    Jarring Tins

gunnar, I don't know if you've already done the deed yet but I would not jar that aged tobacco. As far as I am concerned, aged tobacco is meant to be consumed ASAP after you open the tin. If you open that tin up now, the aging process will be finished and you would benefit most from smoking...

    Jarring Tins

If you aren't picky, then there is no real harm in storing one tobacco blend in a jar that once held a similar blend. (ie. Orlik Golden Sliced in a Dunhill Flake jar) I would not do that, however, because it is easy to avoid any flavour/contaminant transfer whatsoever. Wash the jar, dry it...

    What's Your Favorite Cob?

The Country Gentleman is also my favourite, hands down. I've got 12 or 13 in rotation. I agree with flintlockjohn - it has a sizable bowl for long enjoyable smokes and it performs like a champion. I also like the dark stained finish and the overall rustic appearance. I think it is the best...

    Happy Birthday Cigrmaster

Dang, I missed this! Happy belated birthday, Harris. I hope you had a good one.

    Scotch

Highland Park 12 is my favourite all-around Scotch. Oldcajun, that one is perfectly balanced between peatiness and sweetness in my opinion... Eric, buy a bottle of Black Grouse and compare it with Famous Grouse and you'll instantly see what they mean by peatiness. It is a smoky, earthy, slightly...

    Bulk Blend with Some Nicotine!

I was going to say G&H sounds like it would be your friend - browse through their selection. I'm not a big fan of nicotine so otherwise I'm of little help.

    Tobacco from England

I wasn't sure what ones were still on the market. It seems like you can get Capstan Blue and Gold. Know of any others?

    Latest TAD, Where To Start?

I thought that MacBaren tin would be bigger - it must be pretty densely packed, it looks the same size as the 50g tins of that shape.

    Help needed, with homemade pipe!

It sounds like you should buy a few blocks of briar if you have the knowledge to make a pipe, my friend. There is a reason that it is the industry standard, nothing else comes close. Some people have success with various fruit woods but why reinvent the wheel - try your hand at briar.

    Sam Gawith History

1792 definitely has an old school taste, even if it is far younger than the name implies. I wish they made another tonquin flake with just as much sauce but half the nicotine...

I'd kill off one of those Escudo tins if I were you.

    Tobacco from England

You'll have to dig up the address to a tobacconist that will be convenient for her. Some of the bigger ones list the blends they have in stock. London is probably the best shot she has to find an accessible tobacconist anyway. What kind of tobaccos do you prefer, by the way?
