Buffing speed for nice result and without the risk of burn lucite/ebonite but as well the briar is assumed to be under 1000 rpm. 700 will work perfectelty.The problem is obtain this speed without electronic parts but mechanically. Just Finished to Carve Yesterday
Never buy a kit if you have a vertical drill.Buy briar and stem separately.Pre-drilled ebauchons are usually of poor quality with bad or no grain and a lot of sand pit.Good ebauchons are sold separately and cost of course a little more.But if you want to make a rusticated why not? Buy a kit. -

Don't force, shank could be easily cracked.If not glued for a previous problem (sometime i've seen pipese with that problem)you could try to put the stem into a glass full of hot water till where briar meet vulcanite.Then slowly turn on right and on left.If stem does not move stop you.I can't... -
