Best is to follow the grain when possible.Sand the ebauchon in one side, see the grain and drill the tobacco chamber (if possible) parallel to the grain, then do all the rest. Not always is possible, sometime i must to do a compromise
Thank you Dragon. :D
I hope nobody think i'm in here to sell my pipes. No I don't .I don't sell my pipes at all. After smoking and collecting pipes for years of the best brands and artisans worlwide i decided to add to my collection some pipes carved by me.I starded with some and now mines are...
Pistachio looks very similar to olive tree.Did you get the right spade to drill the chamber or did you make yourself?I make mines that works well but needs to be sharpened every drill as they Works like a double knife .Making them myself is good also to obtain drill of every diameter...
Thank you Lawrence, unfortunately or fortunately i don't smoke some of the pipe i carve.I smoke the standard shapes, the art deco' will stay in a stand, they become new sons in my family, guess you understand :?

Old style, in early 1900 was in use to leave from shank the water of condenses from the stopper on back.Nice look but probably not so comfortable as modern pipes
ok i see. I have had similar problems.Sand the top with 80 grain then 240 then 1000 polish it find the right color by bix of color and make a clomplete buffing.Be sure you can obtain a pipe like new only few mm low than original
undamaged the one i bought? or your? Mine had two lateral blows deep over 2 mm probably 3 that i removed changed shape a little on the back pipe by sandind polishing and doing re-color again with the right color. At finally looks like new
Carved this pipe few days ago as i wanted to experiment two colours in a pipe and art deco' style used to use this taste.Angles, curves and multiple colours. That's Has done to me a lot of satisfaction and therefore i doubt will smoke it ,probably i will keep in a stand
