    Coffee & Tea For Me

Never been much of a tea person myself, but recently found that Thai Iced Tea pairs perfectly with English tobaccos. Tea and coffee are just rabbit holes that I haven’t traveled down yet. I (think) I can appreciate a nice tea. But I couldn’t tell you why or use a tea-specific vocabulary to...

What are You Watching? Year 2022

Just binged both seasons of Tehran. I avoided it initially because it just looked like a Homeland ripoff. I was wrong. Sure, there are some standard spy thriller tropes, but the tension is palpable in every episode, and it doesn’t have all the eye-rolling moments that the last several seasons of...

    Weird Bucket List Travel

I loved Vietnam. I stayed in Hanoi and other destinations north. Loved the vibe, the people, the food, the nature. Incredible place. I, too, am a history buff re: the war. I’ve read dozens and dozens (maybe a hundred) books of first-hand accounts. When we were there, we visited Maison Centrale...

    Rum Tobacco Blends

That’s a classic that doesn’t get enough love. If you wanna get deeper into Haitian, check out some clairins (essentially rhum agricole). The stuff mirrors a lot of the production methods used in Oaxaca for mezcal. But with fresh sugarcane juice. Velier has several available in the US.

    Rum Tobacco Blends

I didn’t realize a lot of these tobaccos that were mentioned had rum toppings. This has saved me a lot of time. But has NOT saved me a lot of money. 😆

    Rum Tobacco Blends

I do enjoy Latakia blends a lot, so looks like Black Frigate is next up. I’ve heard the pipe community is very welcoming and helpful, and you all just demonstrated that in spades!

    Rum Tobacco Blends

My newness to the hobby is showing. I didn’t realize that “navy” blends very often meant rum. That opens A LOT of possibility. That’s why I’m here. You guys did exactly what I needed… pointed me in the right direction.

IIRC, I made an attempt to order a few from them, but there was a merchant processing issue. Good to hear!

    Rum Tobacco Blends

Loving these recs! I haven’t tried most of these because of a few not being my cup of tea (Lane, Boswell) I almost picked up that Sutliff then forgot about it until it was just mentioned. And regarding Appleton Estate. It gets an image of being a “cheap” rum because of the price point of...

    Rum Tobacco Blends

I am a hardcore rum nerd. I’ve got over 300 bottles of esoteric, unicorn bottles at my home, in addition to tons of rare bottlings at my tiki bar. But, I have only recently stumbled into the rum barrel finished Mississippi River by SPC. And I’m in love. So, my question is… any other...

    Weird Bucket List Travel

I have experienced that. I’ve driven all over the interior of the island and throogh the Blue Mountains. Feels like driving through Baghdad. I have only been motion sick 3 times in my life. And all due to insane drivers in the mountains . Once in Martinique, once in Chiang Mai Thailand, and...

    Weird Bucket List Travel

Hanoi is similar. But, there is a trick to it. We had to be taught how to walk across the street. There are some thing like 4 million scooters in Hanoi. You just have to start walking, and let them “part the sea” around you. It’s very nerve-wracking the first few times. You can feel the wind of...

    Weird Bucket List Travel

The cathedral itself. The grandeur. You could literally fit the Statue of Liberty under the duomo. And, of course, Michelangelo’s Pietá. The Sistine chapel is amazing, but it’s very difficult to see anything. You are walking around with your head pointed straight up, bumping into people, and the...
