    New Piper in Cyprus

    Welcome from Maine

    Male Socializing/Outlets/Clubs/Etc.

I just signed up for a woodworking open shop course at the local community center. I have plenty of woodworking equipment at home, enough to build whatever I want (still have to build a shop), but I'm doing it to try to engage a new community (moved to a new region the last coupla' years)...

    Long time no see..

Brother used to live up in Sylva/Tuckasegee up that curvy road going to Cashiers for quite some time. One of those rare places that is among the most beautiful on Earth, but little known (at least back in the day). Night sky is so clear up there. Came up there every break I got for years. Not...

    Favorite Oatmeal Cut?

Rolled oats, overnight with vanilla cinnamon and raisins. In the morning, add peanut butter powder and protein. Makes the whole into a decadent peanut butter and oats mess that tastes like a pb oatmeal cookie with 1:1 protein to carb. Tho, honestly, I'll eat oats about anyway ya make em.

    In Praise of Tobacco

Hymnus is wonderful, been looking for a nice copy for years.

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

Never tried it, oddly enough. Seen it a thousand and one times. My sights are locked in now. I'll give it a try. Thanks brother

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

Thanks. Asheville is a special place, absolutely stunning and one of a kind. I’d visit a few times a year when I was down there too. Know Hickory well too, my neck of the woods. I love that homemade tobacco smell, still looking for a blend that tastes like the old barns we’d cure in when I was...

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

Have to admit to having been stunned that I couldn’t order Tobacco when I moved up here. Can order alcohol, could have pot delivered, but no tobacco!!! Thanks for the offer, I may have to take you up on that. I haven’t visited Peretti, but look forward to it. Whereabouts do you visit in Southern...

    Musk Buying Twitter Part II

Had a brother, world traveller, super smart in his own way, died last year of covid on his way back from Singapore via Germany, one of my favorite people on earth. He reminded me so much of Musk in how he presented himself to the world. Probably only read a handful of books cover to cover in his...

    Nuclear Fusion

Total burn. Nah, Shearon Harris is an old boy. I well understand the difference between and an is and a u, wise guy. Used to visit the Duke power plants, dams, etc. with my g-parents when I was a kid. Interesting how this turned into an extant functioning plant, when that was nowhere in my...

    Nuclear Fusion

This is an evolutionary step more akin to the first harnessing fire or first utterance or first purpose made tools than say a steam engine or the printing press. Fire is to nuclear fusion what a crude scrawling of a line or circle in the dirt is to the Principia Mathematica. And, I suspect this...

Post Pipe Rituals - Stretching Out the Bliss

Sometimes I comb in a little sweet beard oil after a smoke for just this reason.

Post Pipe Rituals - Stretching Out the Bliss

Totally agree. If it’s the evening, bourbon always goes with the pipe. Nothing more relaxing or indulgent. Might have to try to add a salted caramel to the mix, sounds like an absolutely delicious trifecta

Post Pipe Rituals - Stretching Out the Bliss

Just curious if anyone has any post smoke rituals beyond basic pipe maintenance (or the lack there of)? Myself, I like to try to enjoy the lingering flavors left on the palate afterwards, reminiscing on the ghost of the pipe just past. One way I do this is chewing a piece of cinnamon gum (which...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

11-12 year cellared Pirates Kake in a George Jensen bent apple. Those years have mellowed the smoke even further, making it a refined, luxuriant, woodsy smoke. Softening the burleys every so much to blend with the other leaves into a lightly smoldering mesquite undertone. Perfect for a morning...

What shape would that be? A pot?

    Which one next...?

If you're liking Englishes but have enjoyed aromatics and want to move to less aromatic blends and into traditional territories, how about an English crossover? There are tonnes. A good, easy going starting point might be Boswells Northwoods. It has both a delicious and dynamic flavor. Spend...

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

Greetings all. Yes, Maine is quite a bit colder than the Carolina Piedmont. Nothing like a first snow and knowing your fear is unfounded, but still feeling by the 29th inch of snow (when they called for 6 inches) that one has put one's children in mortal danger of freezing to death. Now I look...

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

Halllooo. Close. Born in Lexington, reared on bbq, ripened in Winston, homestead in Yadkin (father's retired there). Yadkin is the main root. I get back there every year, will probably retire there myself.

Howdy from a North Carolinian displaced to Maine

How d'ya do y'all, Pipe smoker 20 some odd years (begun in early college), delving in in earnest 13 yrs ago, and finally back at it after a hiatus. Once upon a time had an account here. At one time offloaded some cellared 'baccy in 2012 (bout 3-4 lbs of Penzance--give or take) in an effort to...
