    Best Bulk Tobacco?

McClelland's Dark English Full is fantastic. A bulk version of Frog Morton Across the Pond.

Thanks to Kevin for this site

Kevin, this site whole-heartedly deserves its accolades. I've never been more well-informed or motivated to post by a site before, as I am on this one. Job well done!

Why don't I feel the scent of the tobacco when I'm smoking?

It's TOTALLY about the blend! It's a rare aromatic that actually tastes as good while smoking as it smells in the pouch because the casings burn off. After years of frustration, I finally gave up the aromatics. There are exceptions, however. The only two Aro's that I've found that taste as...

Do you smoke on the road?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Enjoyed some Avalon in a Dunhill lovat just this morning. Great bowl. Serene. I find that I don't want to listen to the usual din of talk or sports radio when I'm smoking. I'd rather enjoy the silence or some jazz maybe. The best is if there's a...

Do you smoke on the road?

I have a 25-minute commute each way to the school I teach at. This year I've started having a small bowl on the way, probably 3 days a week. No accidents (or anything even close) but I got to wondering if other people do this to. How about it fellas? Fess up!

January 2011 - What are you smoking?

Trout Stream in a Savinelli Giubileo D'Oro with a new replacement stem by Mark Tinsky. Sweet Chicken!

    Pioneer Meerschaums

As far as I can tell, Pioneer made some of the absolute best gourd calabashes from the 50's - 70's. Very well put together, and good smokers!

    OTC tobacco?

My first pipe experience of Captain Black and a Grabow from an Osco Drug nearly pushed me away from pipes and permanently into cigars. Years later I bought an estate Stanwell and was taught how to pack my Morning Coffee at Just For Him in Springfield, MO. Now that was living.

    Post Christmas PAD and TAD!

That is one excellent Savinelli. Congratulations! I see a churchwarden in my near future.

    Tobacco Reviewers?

I want to, but mostly because of the DAs who post 50 short reviews in a day. Should be outlawed. Seems shady. I could do better.

    W.O, Larsen

Haven't tried the 2011 yet, but the 2010 is DYNAMITE! Tasty and refreshing and about as smooth as aromatics get. Other than Morning Coffee at Just for Him and Trout Stream at Pipesandcigars.com, this is the only aromatic I smoke.

does anyone else use a pipe to cope with stress?

First of all, my prayers are with you and your sister. Three years ago my wife's Grandmother spent about a month in the hospital before passing away from cancer. While her family (all that's left are women) would pack the hospital room, I would do what I could, then seek solace at Just For Him...

    Peterson Pipes

I agree with puffinstuff except for this: I would go with a good, well restored estate pipe for your first. Why? 1. It's already broken in. Mid and low range Petersons take a WHILE. 2. If you got it for a reasonable price, when you tire of it you can probably sell it for the same amount.

    "Smoking your breakfast"

You should try Just For Him's Morning Coffee along with it. Delicious! One of the only aromatics I smoke.

Viking Pipe Club of Saint Louis

Then, Jason, you need to start one up! It's pretty sweet (most of the time). Where do you live?

Jost's in Saint Louis (anyone have any actual memories of this place?)

Here's the first 3 Jost's I found, from the estate of an StL legend named Chip Powell. The top one is about a Group 1 Jost's "Olde English Supreme" In the middle is a Group 4 Jost's Supreme On the bottom is a Jost's Thames From what I can tell, the Supreme grade denotes at least some quality...

Jost's in Saint Louis (anyone have any actual memories of this place?)

Hey guys. I've been in the StL for about 8 years and recently found out about an old St. Louis institution called Jost's. I've done a fair bit of net searching and found out the following: -the shop was located downtown under Macy's. -in it's later years the shop was run by a female. -the...

    Bertram Pipes.

There are a lot of shop brands from around America. Jost (St. Louis) Ehrlich (Boston) Edwards (Tampa) Bertram (DC) These are some of the more famous house brands. I collect the Jost's b/c I live in Saint Louis, but from what I've seen, the Bertram pipes often have better fit and finish and...
