"Peers" or "MacKenzie" English Pipe. Help, Please.

I wish I had something helpful on the pipe- it’s beautiful! Is there an actual “Who Made That Pipe” thread?

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

I’ve been thinking about just this wider bowl thing lately. I’ve found myself shying away from a couple of pipes that are favorites aesthetically but, due to their wider bowls, I don’t reach for as often. Maybe I’m in a phase but these days I’d rather smoke multiple smaller pipes with different...

    Watch City Cigar's Flake #558

I just smoked some 558 and OD this week- for the first time. I found them similar, but the barnyard “pouch smell” of the 558 is what stands out. I always end up liking these heavy perique blends. I did find myself wondering, “what other blends is 558 similar too, from other manufacturers?” I...

Cornell and Diehl Aged Virginia Flake

I found some jarred C&D Va Flake from 2018. When I got it, it was orange and good but “green” tasting. I opened it this week and it was a deeper orange color, dried to the perfect moisture level, and a pleasure to smoke. It looked dramatically different than when I jarred it. It wasn’t quite...

    Preferred Lighter

Would this Clipper lighter basically be about the same temperature as a Bic? Does it’s design change anything about the heat of the flame? Just curious. It looks like something I’d like to try!

Is a Zippo Pipe Insert Really Better?

I have recently been revisiting the zippo with the pipe insert (the IM Corona Old Boy is my completely-worth-it-go-to). I really enjoy the old school zippo experience. Even letting the fuel burn off first! But with the pipe insert, I find I have to spend a lot of effort pulling the flame down...

2 Old Duns, 1 Pete Resto Project (Ahi Ka-Humblepipe Collab)

This thread is awesome. Probably never going to restore at this level (understatement), but that doesn’t stop my enjoyment of watching you guys do your thing. I watched these videos a while back and am loving their application on this new restoration… Josh

McClelland Dilemma - To try or Not?

Smoke them. There are so many unknowns: 1. You might drop dead tonight. 2. You might die tomorrow morning. 3. Death. 4. You might not like McCs. 5. You might love it and upon smoking the last bit of dottle from the last tin of McC you have, you might die then. So, I say, smoke it. Tomorrow has...

    Stem Shaping with Files

I recently got the tenon turning tool from Vermont Free Hand and I’ve successfully used it on some precut stems… I have some old pipes with no stems that I’m trying to restore. My question is: how the heck do I get the actual stems in shape? I’ve watched a video about filing and I have the...

    A Bekler Pipe Purchase?

Appreciate the feedback. Since I’m not in the business of selling pipes, I tend to only buy pipes that hold smoking value for me. But I love Meers and have been an admirer of- and on the lookout for- a Bekler for a while. I think that’s why this one caught my eye… The more I ponder this...

    A Bekler Pipe Purchase?

I’ve come across a really good deal on a Bekler CAO. I love Meers and I’ve never had a Bekler within reach though I’ve admired them from a distance. Should I get It? I have a hunch the seller either doesn’t know or doesn’t care what kind of masterpiece he has for sale and that makes it all the...

    Walker Pipe Repair Closing

I’ve sent a number of repairs to WPR over the years and all came back in fantastic shape and with a superb attention to history and detail. … this was after I sent a pipe to another pipe repair shop (with great advertising) that literally buffed a Barling logo off of a priceless collector’s...

How to repair spiderwebbing/Burnout in an estate pipe

I just attempted CaneRodPiper’s Pipe Mortar solution to strengthen the chamber on some new to me Estate Pipes. So far the process of making and applying it has been far better than all the other means I’ve tried… will keep you posted on the results. I thought a Comoy’s Sandblast I found was a...

Jobey/Ben Wade: Battle of the Freehands

I’m curious to know if there’s a particular collective opinion on these two freehand pipe makers. Sometimes it’s hard to tell them apart on my shelf or in a store. But in the end I’m a Ben Wade fan. I don’t think I could say why - aesthetics? Smokability? Maybe I’m missing something on Jobey?

    Unsmoked “Made In England 11s”

I’ve been having fun trying to narrow down this pipe’s possible origins by looking for shape “11” among different British pipe companies… it seems like the Dunhill shape list is the closest thing I can find.
