    Another yes vote for Mason and Bormioli spring type jars. They are easy to acquire, store, and give you that option of a look see. Just opened up an 8oz. jar of FVF and the flakes, from 2009, were still moist.

    I usually just insert a pipe cleaner into stem/shank, to absorb any moisture, then clean the outside. The pipe cleaner is removed the next day.
