    What Is Your GoTo Lighter?

I like simple. The old “form follows function” thought, etc. But I’m good for “dressing up“ simple too: This mostly... This in the car or as a back up - a Bic with a “fancy” Bic case...?

    Silly Game With Blend Names

Higher education establishment chip...? (University Flake!)

Lunting - Not for all Weather Conditions

My “lunting” is actually walking my dog. We both make this a slow, casual affair, which lends itself to a nice pipe most times. I’m usually on wind protected roads and trails, so not a major challenge there. Cold is no bother to me, so if my dog (with his coat) is ok, and his paws can handle...

    Dunhill's Dunbar, A Well-Aged Tin For Christmas

I like the currently available Balkan Sasieni a bit more than the the recently unavailable Durbar. To me, Durbar is a bit “flatter”, or maybe just smoothly blended(and very good!), and Sasieni a bit more Oriental forward and “sharper” than Durbar. I have no history with the older Sobrani or...

    Zippo

Curious - do you leave the "top cap" off the pipe lighter insert on purpose, or did it jump off and run away on ya? Got me thinking about the versatility of using that configuration for both pipes and cigars, and wondering about the wind-proof-ness without the top cap. (I know I can still use...

    My Complaint to Peretti's

My bigger point is the relative amount here. One ounce is about 28 grams. A standard bowl is about 2.5-3 grams, so for discussion purposes, use 2.8 grams a bowl. The full ounce yields 10 bowls, the OP got 9 bowls for a 1 oz sample bag... I agree a full oz short in an 8oz can is bad! 10 bowls...

    My Complaint to Peretti's

I was at Peretti’s over Thanksgiving weekend, and bought an assortment of tobacco. A couple “paint cans”, and a few 2oz bags of various blends. I can vouch for the very cool, very old school balance scale they used. They are huge, and I can imagine “balancing” off one ounce at a time might be...

How Do You Store Your Pipes?

I’ve also posted this before... small pipe & tobacco collection (with extra “cellaring” tins below in the small cabinet) in the basement (no light), at a constant 65 degrees, and 50% humidity. Pipes on racks (cobs hang), open tins in mason jars...

The Aqua Velva, Old Spice, Lectric Shave Thread

Williams Shave soap, a good boar brush, a straight razor, and Aqua Velva here... Old school, clean, and reserved. Clubman after some Cella shave cream is the alt... Am I a Codger with this? ?

    Zippo

“Ranger band” as well - a cut section of bicycle inner tube... Had one, used one, but now (at home, not in the field), just refill every 10-14 days...just part of the pipe process to me - and I like it!?

    Zippo

...Zippo fluid...? or Ronsinol as well now. The Kodak model: give ‘em the camera cheap, and charge for the film (fluid)! I’m still a big Zippo fan...?

Retrospective 2019 - My Pipe World

I’ve learned to just enjoy my hobby of pipe smoking, public be damned. BUT - I prefer to not infringe on others‘ space as well, so I pick my spots and tobacco. If I’m walking along, I’m not monopolizing the area. No different than the proverbial smoking bus passing by (but I generate a better...

Does Bigger Bowl Give Better Taste?

Not sure why I feel compelled to add to this discussion from a few weeks ago, but...what the hell...so pay attention!? Two points I would make, considering a tobacco blend with a few ingredients (as opposed to a straight VA, or simple cavendish): 1) A larger chamber diameter would potentially...
