    I Definitely Love Pipe Smoking

Yep. It's only made worse if you're like me and averaging a bowl every few days and with a bunch of open tins. A big variety and you know that you gotta make it count! :D Simon

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

I've been watching with interest. I took part in the U.S. box pass last year, and it was a blast to have such a variety of blends to sample. I credit it with really nailing down what tobacco I prefer. That box was a monster, too. I'm going to be moving to Calgary in the next few months though...

Saying Goodbye to A Couple of Friends

My condolences on your losses. While knowing that euthanasia saves them pain, it also is an enormous responsibility as a pet owner and seems a cruelty at the time. We had a cat with kidney failure who went from healthy to obviously in dire straits in only two weeks. Some final tests and a bad...

    Great News for Pipe Tobacco!

Good news! Although I won't even try to guess what a highways bill would have to do with RYO tobacco. Interesting country you have there. :) Simon

    Storing Aromatics

At the rate I smoke (slow) and with the number of tins I have open (many), I guess I'm an experiment in progress. What I noticed was that in their original packaging (tins, bags, pouches) my blends were slowly drying out after opening. So I now have 250 ml mason jars that I immediately transfer...

    T for...

MPAA: This film is rated "R" because in twelve frames of one scene, there's an extra in the background who has a pipe in his mouth. Producer: But... but... but... it's a Spongebob Squarepants movie! MPAA: Suxors to be you. Simon

    Flake Tobaccos

Damn, now I want to go and re-try some of that Solani 633 I've got aging. It's high-N (for me) and gave me unpleasant side effects. I put some in the box pass and kept a few flakes for myself. That's how good it is: I couldn't toss it even though it kicked like a mule. Simon

Question: What aesthetics do you like in a pipe?

75% of the reason I opened this thread was because I saw hobie1dog had posted and I had to read his... colourful... comment. Disappointed by the lack of accompanying pictures, though. But since I'm here, I'll say that I tend to like the traditional shapes, billiard, bulldog and apple...

    OK I am back sorta.

Welcome back, UA! S'not the same without you. Simon

What Are You Smoking? June 2012

The last of the Frog Morton on the Town in my trusty ol' Brigham 1/8 bent apple. It was an amazing bowl, top to bottom. I'm going to miss this blend until I can get some more. Got a dozen other open tins to work through first. Simon

    Beards

Beard 11 months of the year, moustache for Movember. I keep it short and well-trimmed, so it doesn't really save me any time on the shaving. Simon

    Post yer guitar pictures!

Nice pick up, schmitzbitz! Gotta love those lucky finds. Simon

    Sexiest woman ;)

Kate Winslet has my vote. Followed closely by my wife. Just don't tell her she came in second. :-) Simon

    Post yer guitar pictures!

This is my main guitar: It's a Yamaha AES620. I like the look, tone and feel. I also have a MIM Strat (white), and a BC Rich cutaway acoustic in black and a handmade classical guitar. I'd like to get a Gibson Explorer, but haven't been able to justify it. :-) Simon

    2012 Throwdown!

Cool that they are doing this. Unfortunate that I've never heard of the target blends before, though. One of the problems with being new to the hobby, I guess. Simon

What are you Smoking? March 2012

Froggy on the Town in my 1/8 bent Brigham rusticated apple. This is a fantastic blend, and I'm sad because I only have about four more bowls' worth in the jar. Simon

What are you Smoking? March 2012

Found yet another quality tobacconist in my town today. They concentrate on cigars, but have a number of blends that no one else carries in town. Grabbed a pouch of Borkum Riff Cherry Liqueur and just finished the first bowl. Not offensive. Quality smoke. Wife said the room note was like cherry...

    Tobacco smoking line-up

I would migrate from more to less subtle. Start with the virginias or light orientals, then shift to balkan, English. I can't say I've done wine tasting, but I know when drinking I appreciate the nuances of the first glass or two, then the tastebuds up and walk away. Might start the evening with...
