    Recommended Tobacco "Rotations"

Hi all, I hope you managed to switch year just fine! I just had the idea that we could share either our current "rotations" or our most recommended rotations in this thread. Here in Sweden its freezing outside and I think that affects the taste in such a way that I can't make any review notes...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I tend to remove ash more often. I've become a bit picky with the taste of too much ash in the bowl. Now, I rid the top of the ash (just touch it from the side and turn the pipe upside down) maybe 3-4 times in an hour and then tamp lightly. A quick relight then gives a thick smoke immediately if...

    Breath Technique Question

What tobacco are you smoking? I had that problem before starting with the breath method, but now only have to spit when I smoke very strong tobacco (SG 1792).

    How to Re-Hydrate Pipe Tobacco

This might be a new strategy for some, but very simple. I move the tobacco (mostly Samuel Gawith) to air tight jars right after the first smoke. Every time I'm about to close the jar I check the tobacco moisture and put 4 drops of water from a tea spoon if needed. Over a couple of days the...

    Samuel Gawith Navy Flake

SGNF was my first latakia experience and I didn't notice anything fish like, but it was an explosion in colors and maybe some distant flowery aroma. I thought it was really fantastic first half and then maybe a little too much of that taste in the end. Now I've tried it a number of times and...

    Who Else Loves Old Gowrie?

OG is very nice. I had a little issue with the citrus tone the first smokes, but the last time was top notch. Feels like it could grow to become a favourite some day.

    Samuel Gawith St. James Flake

Totally agree. SJF has become my super quality reference after dinner smoke.

    Any Advice? Killer Tongue Bite

Lots of good advice here already, but here's my prio list of things to consider. I think technique is the key here. All tinned tobaccos I've tried since I systematically refined my technique has worked just fine. That includes englishes, vapers, burley/cavendishes and a couple of aromatics from...

    Greetings from Sweden!

It's a very bent Big Ben Pamir (made in Holland, can't find it on google anymore). Light and short for relaxed clenching.

Absolutely no problem for me either. My oldest pipe was a disaster but is my favourite now.

How I Enjoy the Pipe to the Fullest

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I typically tamp 2-3 times during the first half of the bowl and maybe once second half.

How I Enjoy the Pipe to the Fullest

Hi all, I just thought it might be time to summarize what I need to do to really enjoy a pipe to the fullest. As you might have seen in my other posts I've learnt some important things the last couple of years that made my last months of smoking at least twice as enjoyable as the 13 years...

    A Few Questions.......

As a former cigarette smoker and nicotinist I had the bad habit of sometimes inhaling to get a fast nicotine kick. But over time I have started to enjoy the tastes more than the nicotine and now I avoid inhaling because I think it somehow disturbs my sensing of the aromas.

Yes. As long as the pipe is cleaned and possible used filter removed.. I didn't even do that properly for a while. ?

    Greetings from Sweden!

Agree. Pipe smoking i so special in that you need to learn many things through experience until you really get it. And when you get it, it's crazy how nice it is. Sadly, I suppose most people never get there.

    Samuel Gawith Kendal Cream Deluxe

Smoked this for my second time today and I had one of those fantastic moments sipping and chewing fantastic smoke for over an hour outside with no wind at all. I like full and meaty perique or latakia blends, and for me, this is a perfect daytime alternative. The core of the smoke is creamy and...

How to Prepare Flake Pipe Tobacco

I think fold n stuff works if you need the speed and maybe som elegancy. But rubbing first is the safer option if you are aiming for an hour without relighting.

    Greetings from Sweden!

Hello all, I've been smoking pipe for about 14 years. Were close to quitting for some years until I just recently started to experience a new level of enjoyment due to new methods and tricks. Happy to share my experiences, Cheers!
