My first pipe was a brylon. I smoked some lane 1-Q. It was not a horrible experience, but the pipe did get incredibly hot. Tongue Fatigue
Likely just tongue fatigue. I have had this happen to me, especially if I have a later afternoon/evening strong tobacco and then later have something quite a bit lighter. I should add that this typically is on a day that I have had 2-3 more pipefuls more than I typically enjoy. One more...- jndyer

Too Hot to Smoke?
When it is overly hot it probably cuts down my pipe smoking around 25%. I am blessed to live on the high desert of Oregon, so typically, even on hot days, it cools off to a large extent after about 7pm and does not get blazing hot until after 10am.
