"Eruption" My first attempt at rustication

    Looks great!

Why did you start smoking a pipe?

It's fun reading everyone's stories. Mine is pretty simple. A friend of mine (also occasionally on this forum) was interested in making them after having got his hands on some old dried black walnut. He made one for me and we ventured to the local B&M and started checking out the blends. That...

    First Time Latakia Experience

I think I started preferring English blends pretty early on. It's that woodsy/campfire aroma and flavor... Now that I'm thinking of it, some Vintage Syrian may make its way into my pipe shortly.

Great anniversary present from my wife :)

Thanks you all! We had a great anniversary and I'm enjoying the lighter. It looks great with the rest of my tobaccos and pipes too. @JC - Actually ours was yesterday, 10/20. We have some close friends who are celebrating 11 years today. Great time of the year in general I suppose :)

Great anniversary present from my wife :)

I was thrilled when I opened this box: It's a Xikar Resource and works great. One less accessory to carry and I had only used an angled flame before when visiting the local B&M. [edit: resized pics]

    Pipe Smoking Discrimination

Nice. These people usually talk about that kind of stuff in the midst of stuffing their faces with genetically engineered processed dead food while taking pharmaceuticals for whatever ails them. Outdoor grilling releases carcinogens. I wonder what happens with that 3rd-hand smoke.

    Pipe Smoking Hero(es)

Well Spurgeon was a avid cigar smoker... Not that some of the more modern preachers or philosophers should somehow vindicate the hobby for us, the truth of the matter is that smoking is a rather morally neutral behavior.

    Pipe Smoking Discrimination

Maybe you'd find more pipe smokers on Lord of the Rings Online, and if you're a farmer you can grow your own pipe-weed. :)

    Pipe Smoking Hero(es)

I think C.S. Lewis is probably at the top for me.

Managing the Cherry - Keeping the Ember

I do as well. For many, I'd imagine, the whole process of smoking a pipe is relaxing. I basically follow much the same formula that fireink discussed and I've seen many others do as well. The more you smoke, the more unconscious the process is.

    Angler's Dream

Ok, so I think this is my fourth or fifth bowl and this stuff has grown on me quite a bit. It's a nice chilly evening and very calm. Sipping this has removed the 'hot tamale' taste and instead its a very pleasant cocoa/cinnamon in both flavor and aroma. Good stuff.

PAD came in the mail today!

Looks great! I wouldn't be up for a stain soaked mouth either :)

    Great Virginia blends?

Looking for any Virginia blend recommendations. Here's the back story which might help in what you suggest: Having recently acquired a few more pipes thanks to a generous co-worker who had quite a few pipes from his father that he wanted to refurb for display (he doesn't smoke), I've started...

    Hearth and Home Magnum Opus

That was a great review! I haven't gotten to try it yet but am definitely looking forward to doing so.

    lets talk about this pipe

I love these. I just refurbished a Ben Wade last week given to me by a coworker. Reminds me, I owe the forum pictures...

    C. S. Lewis: Novelist, Scholar, Broadcaster - Pipe Smoker

Commented on the article as well. C.S. Lewis is still considered one of the greatest Christian philosophers and apologists of our day, and thus, my signature. Mere Christianity and The Weight Of Glory are so rich with meaty statements that a pipe is probably the greatest accompaniment while...

Picked up a few estates today

Here's an excellent 3-part video on how to refurbish pipes. I used this method on a 25+ year old Ben Wade that was in pretty rough shape. Looks good as new now (cept for a couple bites that couldn't buff out...)
