Firebird Flake Release Must Be A Success

This is quite comical to me, everyone all hurt over a small batch selling out fast. It happens often with C&D. Sounds like they did limit it to 10 tins per order to try and let more people have some. A lot of people who buy these small batch releases buy a lot because they want to see what it’s...

Dr. Fred Hanna on Radio Show of January 7, 2025

Always fun to hear from Dr Fred Hanna. Some really interesting new facts since the last time he was on the show. Everything is good in moderation… except pipe collecting, that’s meant to be done in excess.

    Savinelli Bings Favorite

Yeah ribbon cuts tend to be around 45mins in the Bings Favorite for me.

    Savinelli Bings Favorite

It’s the only Savinelli I kept when I thinned the herd years back. For me it’s between 45-75mins depending on the blend. Typically flakes are on the longer end.

New Interview with Per G Jensen on Mac Baren's Demise

I’m not sure if this is where Per was going because I don’t have the patience to listen to 1hr 20mins of interview just to find out what was said about Sykes, but I would LOVE to see Per hook up with C&D and do his own line of blends like the GL Pease blends.

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

If I’m only going to buy C&D/Pease blends why would I then stop buying from SP? That doesn’t make sense. I don’t care if Sykes continues to have STG blends on the site. Thats his choice. Plus those blends are gonna be watered down and nothing like they currently are because STG will use a...

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

Personally I don’t care what happens to STG as a result of this. I’m only buying C&D/Pease blends going forward. If STG closes down pipe tobacco production or goes bankrupt I’ll still be able to get C&D/Pease blends. I’m sure STG won’t miss my 30-50 tins a year I purchased of Escudo, Capstan...

Will The STG Market Disruption Create Opportunity For Boutique Blenders?

Considering we just lost a major leaf supplier in Sutliff, I doubt this ends up a boom for boutique blending. Maybe, and this is a big MAYBE, Laudisi has C&D increase small batch production to fill some of the void.

If You Could Visit any Pipe Shop...

USA - Country Squire, LJ Peretti, Straus (been there want to revisit), Smitty’s, Iwan Rhies (been there a couple times always enjoy it), Uhle’s International - Danish Pipe Shop, Peterson store in Dublin

    Questions for Leonardw

With how much you’ve cut from the American market and the fact you shut down Sutliff and aren’t interested in small batch blends which is very vogue in the American pipe market these days, can’t you see how American pipe smokers feel they are an after thought and aren’t a concern for STG? Now...

    Questions for Leonardw

“As painful as it has been, I believe the decisions I've made are what's best not simply for my company, but for the long term health of the pipe tobacco category.” If you’ll excuse me I have to go get some ice since I just fell on the floor laughing at this statement.

    Questions for Leonardw

Since STG doesn’t seem to care about the US market, when will they be completely pulling out of it since we’re not a profitable market?
  13. lordofthepiperings

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

I look at it this way, STG took two brands from 980 blends down to about 14 in one fell swoop because they “weren’t profitable”. It wouldn’t shock me if they find pipe tobacco in general not profitable and shut it down completely in five years, so it’s better to move on from them now. If you...

Jon David Cole on Radio Show of December 31, 2024

Real quick back to the Jeff Gracik episode, I agree with a lot of what you said. I look for shapes, finishes, stems that I like and then ask fellow collectors if they have a piece from the carver and if so how they feel about it. I like to clench, so I focus on button work and weight a lot. Once...

There you have it, they truly don’t care about pipe smokers or the community.

    Say Whatcha Want About STG...

I always stop by the Smoking Pipes table at the Vegas show. They’re great to talk to and are very helpful. They’re people who really care about the community and their customers. Heck they just randomly sent out a Kiribi lighter to customers as a Christmas gift. Laudisi is miles away from what...

    Another Reason I Appreciate Laudisi/SmokingPipes.com

I got one Wednesday. Currently using it right now in fact. Good to see others are getting them as well. Agreed, Shane and the SP crew are really good people.

    Say Whatcha Want About STG...

I was deep cellaring Three Nuns, Escudo, Capstan, and Sutliff's VaPer Crumble Kake, but now I'm switching over to only cellaring C&D blends. I'm also only shopping at SmokingPipes. I'm doing the most I can to avoid giving STG any money.

    SmokingPipes Gift

I don’t think they sell any Kiribi’s with the SP logo on them. I think this was a one off thing.

    Questions for Leonardw

Do you feel the same way when an American company buys an overseas company? You’re just trying to deflect and not speak to the topic. I think you are attributing altruism and malevolence where there is none. It’s all business, aimed at providing a suitable return to investors. Yes, it is...
