Would McClelland Sell Their Recipes and Methods?

My understanding is they ran into issues sourcing leaf. They stopped producing 5100 well before any announcement of closing up shop came out because they were unable to source the red VA needed for 5100. So even if they could teach someone all their techniques it would still come down to being...

    Gaming the System

That's an interesting example because the traffic data I've seen shows that traffic flows smoother if everybody stays in their lane and then merges into one lane at the merge point like a zipper. Of course this requires people to keep a safe distance between cars which is also not readily...

Anyone Stoked for Plum Pudding Special Reserve Flake?

I'm in the "I've got plenty of Latakia blends" boat. I've got plenty of Plum Pudding SR and Mississippi River SR to last my lifetime since I rarely smoke either. I'd be more interested in a MRSR but without the Latakia. Maybe even in a real dense plug and not a crumble cake.

    Greetings from BBQ City

Welcome from NC, the real home of good BBQ! puffy I'm also a peated scotch fan, grew up enjoying good bourbon but once I found peat I was hooked. Oddly enough though I rarely enjoy smokey tobacco, mostly VA and VA/per in my cellar.

    Savinelli 320 vs 321

I find the 320 to be a little on the larger side and had thought about picking up a 321 since I usually smoke group 4 size pipes. I haven't really looked for one seriously in over a year but every once in a while I remember and take a look around but have yet to find one that interests me. The...

    Your First Pipe?

My first few pipes were just plain ol' cobs in college with the occasional Captain Black or other OTC blend. It wasn't until I inherited my grandpa's small budget pipe collection that I really got into pipe smoking and got some English and VA blends and bought my first Peterson Donegal Rocky.

Where Have You Traveled Outside Your Native Country?

Toured around Brazil, Jamaica, Ireland, Scotland, with some time in Whales and London as well. Never been to NYC though.

The Tobbacolypse: Would it Affect You at All?

I agree taking a human life is no small deal and something I've grappled with since I first thought of buying a gun. For me it's a last resort and something I don't wish to ever have to live with. But if I am legally defending myself, whether it be in my home or not, then I have to be ready to...

How Much do You Keep on Hand?

I thought I heard recently that someone called the manufacturer of Carter Hall who confirmed it was not going away? If I'm remembering correctly they may have said it would only be in tubs and not in the smaller packaging though.

How Much do You Keep on Hand?

If you just keep buying more than you smoke eventually you end up with years and years of tobacco stored away. I've definitely slowed down on my tobacco purchases in the past year since I estimate that I have 20+ years of tobacco in the cellar already. I'd like to eventually grow my own...

Have You Ever Accidentally Aged Pipe Tobacco? C&D Yale Mixture 2010 Review

I'm the same, making a spreadsheet sounds too much like work. I know the blends I have pounds of but there's always a random tin or two I forgot I purchased. Poking around in the cellar should always have the opportunity for a nice little surprise.

    What's for Breakfast?

I am also of the camp that usually skips breakfast. A few strong cups of coffee and some pipe tobacco usually hold me over till lunch. But when I am in a breakfast mood I have a few usual favorites. Can't go wrong with a simple bacon and eggs, scrambled is fine but fried is better. Usually...

    Hello From Bedford VA

Never expected to find another person from Walnut Cove here, even to most people in the area I just say I'm from near Winston-Salem because if they don't know the Stokes county area they've never heard of Walnut Cove. Welcome!

    Deeming Day?

Sorry to bring back up the McClelland closing topic in this thread but I noticed nobody has really focused on 5100 disappearing. If I heard any rumors of McClelland closing they were on this forum and started around the time 5100 became unavailable. I chose to believe them and kicked myself...

Uncle Phil Smokes a Pipe! Fresh Prince Albert of Bel-Air?

I watched a good amount of Fresh Prince when I was young and don't remember any pipe smoking in it. I would have thought Uncle Phil would have been a cigar guy honestly.

    Cars

My grandfather would buy a car for $500 and keep it running for a year and sell it for $500 and buy another one. He always enjoyed getting under the hood and fixing whatever was broken on a car. I know there are still a lot of people that like to work on their own cars but it's much more...

    Cars

My first car was a 1995 4 door Mazda 626 5-speed. It may have looked like a family car but I drove it like a bat out of hell. A couple of years later I was able to upgrade to a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse 5-speed and even though it was just the standard 4 cylinder it was like a porsche in my young...

    Pocket Pipes

If I want to bring a pipe with me somewhere I usually throw my Briarworks Straight Dublin (their C61 shape) in my pocket. They're great pipes and a it has bounced around in my pocket a lot so it seems pretty durable. All the Briarworks pipes I have smoke great and I like the look of them as...

Who Knew It'd Be So Hard

Off topic from the original question but I have to ask why you would argue that blends with Latakia or Perique are aromatic? Is it just the flavor? If so then why not also include Kentucky or Orientals in your aromatic classification?

    SmokingPipes VIP Requirements Change?

Last year I was downgraded from silver to bronze, I didn't mind because I don't remember ever using the silver or the bronze benefits so I'm not going to spend more money for a badge that has no value to me.
