    Cutty Before/After Restoration

Thanks everyone. It’s a keeper for sure. Feather light too. @jpm, Yes those are dents. Looks like the shank was used to knock out the ashes quite a few times. I managed to remove most of it. Some were very close to the stampings so I left good enough alone. @brian Now I’ve seen 2. Very cool!

    Cutty Before/After Restoration

This is a shape I’ve never seen in my many years of hunting LHS. I was pleasantly surprised to find some decent grain under all that dark stain and grunge. The rim was charred and beat up. That was all the excuse I needed to add a slight bevel. 1926 patent era LHS Purex shape #84.

    Penzance - Meh

Jpm nailed it. Penzance is a fine blend but Margate is my favorite Eso. And yes, all their blends are very damp and require plenty of dry time. I only say this now that my cellar is saturated with Margate. :puffy:

    Pre Carbonized Bowl?

Breaking in a new pipe whether it be raw briar or bowl coating, will taste a bit funky and rob flavor until the pipe is somewhat seasoned. Keep going. Each bowl will be better than the last.

Keeping your Pipe nice and shiny!

Simple maintenance will keep them looking good for years. I wipe the rim and mouthpiece with a damp cloth followed by a quick hand buff with microfiber.

What Does Pipe Burn out Look Like?

Was the spot on there when you bought the pipe, or appeared after smoking it? It could be a cigarette burn from being left in an ashtray. In that case it’s simply cosmetic.
