This is a shape I’ve never seen in my many years of hunting LHS. I was pleasantly surprised to find some decent grain under all that dark stain and grunge. The rim was charred and beat up. That was all the excuse I needed to add a slight bevel.
1926 patent era LHS Purex shape #84.
Wow, another one!
Are those marks on the left side of the bowl (3rd photo down) indentations? Perhaps it was gripped by a vise or pliers? In any event, sanding a bunch?
Thanks everyone. It’s a keeper for sure. Feather light too.
@jpm,
Yes those are dents. Looks like the shank was used to knock out the ashes quite a few times. I managed to remove most of it. Some were very close to the stampings so I left good enough alone.
@brian
I never tire of seeing these miracle transformations of chewed-up stems. Someone enjoyed that pipe for a long time, and now will again. That canted bowl would worry me, but obviously it's a smoker, and just fine thank you, with gorgeous grain.
