Rationalizing Spending A Lot On A Pipe?

Possible scenarios, all of which I've done at one time or another: 1) I've just come into a lot of "extra" money. Someone died and left me money (very unlikely) or I've received an annual bonus payout. 2) I can scratch together the money somehow, and I've got a special occasion to commemorate...

    Genes Contributing to Taste

Cilantro (coriander) is the only such case I know of. It tastes like soap to me, too, but it's widely used in Ecuadorian cuisine and I'm married to an Ecuadorian. I'm quite tolerant of it now. It took a couple of decades.

My New Mini - Eltang Basic

Excellent pipe.... I unloaded mine only because I was cutting deeply into the collection and have a meer in the same shape and configuration. Compared to the Compass, the Eltang Basic's higher price is well justified IMHO.

    Information Needed on "The Pipe"

Well, well.... a good many years ago, I helped one Dr. Billie Taylor compile his history of The Pipe. While it's long since inactive (and, to be honest, I'm not certain whether the good doctor is even still living), you can find it here: Billie W. Taylor II, Ph.D. Pipe Collector -...

    My First (and Second) Pipes

"Cyanoacrylates are a family of strong fast-acting adhesives with industrial, medical, and household uses. They are derived from ethyl cyanoacrylate and related esters. The cyanoacrylate group in the monomer rapidly polymerizes in the presence of water to form long, strong chains...

    My First (and Second) Pipes

CA Glue will work, which is a fast bonding glue used in woodworking. Regular woodworking white glue won't. Also, try heating the band with a lighter before putting it into place. I'm not an expert pipe repairman. I just play one in pipe forums.

    Tobaccos I miss

Goodbye, Bengal Slices, Your smoky flavor departs, Farewell, old friend's art. ... and it *has* long since been discontinued. The new stuff? No slices.

    Mark Tinsky Pipes

Very cool... I've always liked that logo: About ten years ago, I commissioned Mark to make a bent pipe inspired by the British made no name at the top of the picture below. He made it along with two stems, both of which have his logo. It's in his black and tan finish. My first Mark Tinsky...

    Car Question

If it's running fine, you think it's awesome, and warning lights remain on constantly, I'd say it sounds as if you've actually gotten into a Jeep Wrangler by mistake. But as long as it runs fine, I'd keep driving. You can also check online for a 2012 Ford Fiesta Transmission Control Module and...

    Dear English blend lovers,

A different direction: English aromatics. That is, aromatic tobaccos with Latakia. My favorite is Sillem's Black which is a blend of Black Cavendish, Burley, Latakia and Virginia. It falls in between the smokiness of a typical Latakia blend and the sweetness of an aromatic. Another example...

I Want To Strangle Espresso Maker Inventor.

These three solutions have worked out well for me. 1. Travel to Europe and use one of those amazing vending machines (this one was in an office building in Copenhagen): 2. Buy an older, mint condition Olympia Cremina for $60 at a consignment shop: 3. Buy an induction-cooktop-friendly...

Hold on A Sec … Show us Your Seconds !

Here's a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Original next to its Irish Seconds twin. While one has a P-lip and the other doesn't, I couldn't otherwise identify any difference in the smoking experience. I've owned perhaps a couple of dozen Irish Seconds over the years. Savinelli also made seconds...

Beaters - Show Em Here, Talk About Em Here

Mine is a made in Italy "Imported Briar" no name. I picked it up at an estate sale in 1987 or 88; it was missing a stem. I kept it for a few years and finally had a stem made by Mark Tinsky. I soon realized there was a fissure in the bowl that allowed a small amount of smoke to seep out. Once a...

    What is Your Earliest Memory?

I do as well, but fantasy writer Ray Bradbury one made the same claim. "I have total recall. I remember being born. I remember being in the womb, I remember being inside. Coming out was great." - Ray Bradbury

    Let’s Talk about Two Friends

Sort of puts Captain Earle’s Ten Russians into perspective. It’s almost pretentious in this context.

    Let’s Talk about Two Friends

I don't consider it especially strong, but I'm not Perique sensitive. In fact, my palate isn't all that sophisticated. What bothers me are tobaccos that are high in nicotine and this one is in my "tolerable" range. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
