    Memories of Clay Pipes

For me clay pipes are ones of the best if not the best pipe for quality of smoking. I would recommend the double walls one such as the Lepeltier ones as the air chamber helps a lot in cooling the pipe, and they are sturdier than the tavern types. In addition the Lepeltier come with a vulcanite...

    Bobs Chocolate Flake First Time

You did the right thing venturing into Lakelands with Bob Chocolate flake which I consider more a crossover into aromatics rather than a true aromatic. Ennerdale is much more stronger in casing and more tilted toward the floral note rather than the vanilla/tonquin, definitely different and a...

Aromatics Not Doing It For Me

I would suggest looking at the SG or G&H blends. I would start with G&H Bob's chocolate flake as it is really a crossover between Virginia/Latakia and aromatic, then trying Ennerdale for a strong lakeland aromatic flavour and finally if you like strong tobacco trying 1792 flake (in a small bowl...

    The Ugly Truth

[With pipes ranging into the hundreds of dollars I have come to the sad fact that, one of my $14 dollar cobbs is by far one of the best smokers in the group.] To the cobbs I would add the clay pipes, which I consider in absolute the best as they don't alter tobacco flavor in any way, which are...

    Interesting Packing Technique

[.....when the tobacco is damp, it's a huge problem. Otherwise, no.] But I dry the tobacco very well....

    Interesting Packing Technique

I saw originally from J Fox and it is the method of packing I am using for ribbon cut. It works very well, for me the big advantage is that it avoids packing too tight which is a major problem in packing.

Gawith & Hogarth - Samuel G Ropes and Twists

Marscigars has often ropes available when they are sold out at the other 3 big online resellers. Slightly more expensive (about 5-10%) but very fast shipping and at the end if it has what others has sold out it can be the best choice. I bought from them and very happy of their service.

    Resealing Used Tins

[Welcome to the forum Charatansonly. Thanks for the tip! 64alex: Great idea too. The zip ties would probably be very tight.] Thinking more the zip ties might work but only on tins with aluminum/metallic top (the european ones). For the ones with soft plastic top (the american ones) I don't see...

    Resealing Used Tins

[To prevent my tobacco from drying out I put a few strong elastic bands (rubber) very tight around my tins. They press the rubber sealing in the lid very strong on the rim of the tin so that the tin is airtight again.] Interesting point you are making. Never tried but might get interested...

    Tobacco Suggestions for a Beginner

[Some good suggestions, though I wouldn't go with a Latakia blend at the start. The OTC's like Carter Hall, Prince Albert, etc or the mild aromatics like Cult Red Moon or Captain Black or 1-Q are tried and true ways to get into pipe smoking.] While the most common given advice is to start with...

    Resealing Used Tins

Cwarmouth First of all of my sympathy. I am in a situation very similar to your so I understand perfectly why you want to reseal tins which is why I am doing the same thing. Going back to your question about materials used for resealing and specifically about paraffin film, I think aluminum...

    Resealing Used Tins

[I've got no clue why you would want to insist on resealing tins when mason jars are readily available.] We all know there are different options with the mason jars being the safest for very long term storage. However he asked a specific question if it is possible to reseal a tin and we should...

    Resealing Used Tins

I use a double foil of aluminum modeled over the border of the tin and cut about 1/4 inch below the border of the tin. Then I seal it with electric tape. Then I put the cap of the tin and I seal also the cap with another run of electric tape or aluminum tape. Using this method for nearly two...

    English Aromatic

GH Bob's chocolate brown. I would call more a crossover, mainly Virginia but with a touch of Latakia and Burley and very well balanced with cocoa, chocolate and vanilla casing. I had a bowl last night and it was great particularly the first 1/2 (after that the chocolate/vanilla note subdue and...

Legislation and the Future of Tobacco

[However, many things could slow this downward trend from legislation to a strong surge of interest from people who are about five years old right now, for their own reasons. What you suppose will happen seldom does.] If it resisted at least 10.000 years I think it might change but quality...

    Burley Based Aromatics

[Anyway, stay away from American aromatics and go for the British stuff. ] I cannot agree more. The SG/GH have some very good blends. 1792 is indeed one of the strongest one in the nic dept and I use only in small bowls. Tonight I just had my first bowl of GH Bob's Chocolate flake and it is...

Kramer shop in Beverly Hills closed today

Today was the last day of opening the historic Kramer Shop in Beverly Hills. So late this morning I went there, the shop was nearly entirely empty with Marsha and Jim packing the last items and signing the last few papers. They were clearly saddened and emotional, I can understand all the...

    Which Pipes Are Best?

[I am not surprised; he asked what was the best material, and the answer is briar- for the most tested, the soundest, and universal choice. ] Well, if we talk about the best wood briar might be the best, but if we talk about the best material there are other choices such as clay, meerschaum and...

    Which Pipes Are Best?

Leaving cosmetic considerations aside and considering only smoking qualities briar is not the only material and there other materials you would like to consider, some of then potentially even better. In the high price range I would consider meerschaum and morta, in the low price range clay and...

    Aromatic Bowl Size?

[Also, many folks here have expressed reservations about starting with an aromatic. ] I second that. To be clear I have nothing against aromatic (even if many members of the forum are not fans of aromatics) and actually I now starting to smoke and appreciate some aromatics. But the problem...
