And the best part is that using the coding system I now discovered the Escudo tin is of 3/2012, wow, I got 7 years of age on it :-)

    Dating Escudo and Erinmore tins

I got yesterday at a B&M a 50% discount at an STG Escudo and an STG Erinmore square (not the most recent round) tin. However I don't see any date on the tins. Any idea if and how it can be found the production dates for these two tins?

    Grousemoor Is Weird

Was the ribbon cut or the plug form? I have the plug and it was told me it is different from the ribbon cut. Yes, also the plug is a unique league of its own but the underlying tobacco is definitely there and for my taste pretty good.

Do You Dedicate Pipes To Only One Blend?

I use mainly morta, clay and meers and I clean them with hot running water after each smoke. Doing so there is no need to dedicate them to a blend or genre as I never had issue of ghosting them doing in that way. I use a cob to taste new blends just in case they are something weird.

Is gurgling related to the pipe or tobacco?

Also material of the pipe has an effect. Meer, clay and morta absorb more moisture than briar and so are less prone to gurgling. Also cob are less prone. As a matter of fact the only pipe which can have some gurgling is my briar, no issue with all the other materials with me.

What Pipe Brand Most Consistently Makes a Great Smoking Pipe?

Provided it is very subjective I would put this in a different perspective thinking more than on a brand term, on the material term. In other words what makes a great smoke between briar, morta, meer, cob, clay, olive wood .....? I found that differences in materials used are more important...

Brexit Impact on Germain, G&h, SG?

I am not from the UK and provided I don't think there will be a hard Brexit but a last minute agreement will be found, even in the case of a hard Brexit I don't think it will affect them that much as their leaf imports is from outside the EU, mainly India, Africa and South America which are not...

    Best of the best

Italy: - Il Duca. His morta pipes are amazing both for the aesthetic and functionality. Also his Olive wood sandblasted are exceptional. - Tom Spanu. The briar is top notch. Also great alternative woods that nobody else makes such as Lemon wood. Now run by the son but quality stayed the...

How do you know when your bowl is finished?

Generally the first sign is when the taste gets bitter and then a little bit later it stays light for only one or two puffs. The drier the tobacco, the more I can go close to the end without getting bitter, one main reason for me to dry the tobacco (the other being I find the taste fuller and...

Best place to order pipe tobacco

In addition to what already mentioned I would add Mars for blends more difficult to find in the major sites and Sjnyeco (in Switzerland but they ship to USA) for the SG/GH plugs and ropes not available in the USA.

Gawith Hoggarth Ennerdale and now...Gawith Hoggarth Bob's Chocolate Flake

[Scloyd, grab a meerschaum pipe. All of my Lakelands are smoked in meers. It helps.] Meerschaum, clay or morta for that.

    Wide bowls for flavor...

I find a wider bowl brings up better the taste of complex English/Balkan mixtures. The wider I have is a clay Lepeltier billard which is 25 mm wide and it is wonderful with complex mixtures.

Anything That Eliminates Odor from Pipes Sitting Out?

[But to really get rid of the odor, flush out the chamber and airway with hot tap water. Dry with paper towel and pipe cleaner in the airway.] This is exactly what I do and there is no smell at all.

How to Prevent Nausea While Smoking?

As said above nicotine lower your blood glucose which is what is giving you nausea. So 4 things to do are: 1. Use a lower nicotine blend, 2. Not inhaling (as much more nicotine is absorbed if you inhale), 3. Smoke with a full stomach and 4. At the first symptoms of nausea stop immediately...

A Latakia Blend for Latakia Haters?

Hmmmm, you don't like Latakia and you are looking for a Latakia blend?. This let me scratch my head. Maybe you should look at a blend with just only a little bit of Latakia. I am thinking at GH Bob's Chocolate Flake which has Virginia, Burley and 8% Latakia with mild cocoa and vanilla...

    Pipe Tobacco, Cigars and Humidors

[A small point: When a mason jar of aging tobacco is opened and resealed, aging doesn't stop. But it sure changes!] This was the real reason of my post, is it important or not to not open the jars/tins during aging? Looking at what is done with cigars I start to think that, as long as jars are...

    Pipe Tobacco, Cigars and Humidors

First of all I only smoke pipes and I know very little about cigars. I know however that cigars are meant to be stored/aged in humidors, while on the other side we pipers keep the baccy in airtight tins or jars. I assume the difference in storing between cigars and pipe tobacco is that pipe...
