Have you considered anxiety? Sounds crazy, but it was the cause of all of my heart attacks that weren’t heart attacks...it also gave me an ulcer I didn’t really have, and it’s now causing me breathing problems that my healthy lungs don’t actually have hahaha. What is Happening to the Rim of My New Pipe?
This is what I did with excellent results. I use a buffing wheel on a drill with carnauba wax to shine it up after the lacquer is removed.- lightmybriar

Savinelli uses a lacquer? type coating on a lot of their pipes I think, and some fade rather quickly. My Oceana pipe finish faded in most places after a few smokes, leaving brush-stroke shiny places behind in some parts. I stripped it off altogether and coated it with my own carnauba. Dunhill pipes are made to come with an aluminum inner tube, from stem to bowl, so the fact that the ones you encountered couldn’t pass a cleaner assures that somebody messed with the drilling before you got them.
