    Captain Black Briar Pipe

I have an older Orlik made Captain Black that I bought as an unsmoked estate. It's a straight apple and a great smoker. I would definitely buy any other shapes if I ever came across one again. I would love to get one complete with the box. Maybe a little irony, I tend to smoke CB in a few...

Report on Missouri Meerschaum's 155th Anniversary Celebration

Great report. If I was ever down that way, I'd love to stop by their factory for a visit. I love my MM cobs and smoke at least one every day!

    Canadian Everclear Alternatives?

I went into the BC liquor store a while back just for this purpose. The highest proof they had was Lambs Navy Dark Rum 151 proof (75% alcohol). It works okay and the Rum tends to leave a slight pleasant ghost. Edited to add, the cheap high proof rum is pretty rugged for drinking, it's best...

    Chewable Plugs?

For the Gawith ropes, I just cut a thin coin or two and then tuck them into my upper lip and let them just sit there. I find the flavor takes awhile to come and then I only occasionally give it a little bite to stimulate it. They last a long time. The longest of any tobacco I've chewed. Someone...

    Chewable Plugs?

Probably the easiest way is to start with the Swedish snus 'portions' I think they are called in the little teabag? Or you can just learn how many of us did when your young and still wet behind the ears, the guys at work have either a bag of Redman or can of Copenhagen and offer you some. You...

    Dedicated Pipes

I have two pipes dedicated to Borkum Riff Bourbon and two pipes dedicated to Rattray's Marlin Flake. After smoking both blends a fair amount I just found that those blends smoked consistently well in those particular pipes. The BR Bourbon pipes I do smoke other whisky or adjacent aro blends...

Advice on Blends for New Smoker

I have Dan Tobacco last digital catalog for 2019. On page 74 it has a blend named Alter Pinnas. Could this be it? It does use some very old font style on the tin making it hard to read. Here is the page in question. If this is correct I believe it is in current production, Estervals had it...

Advice on Blends for New Smoker

I should mention that the PS Bullseye flake does appreciably better after a couple of years in the cellar. It's certainly a decent smoke fresh, but age is very kind to the Peter Stokebye Virginia flakes.

Advice on Blends for New Smoker

My recommendation is to get a couple of tins of Dunhill/Petersen Elizabethan Mix and 100gr or 4oz of PS Luxury Bullseye Flake. Open them up, let them air out for about 30min to an hour and put them into air tight glass canning jars. After a month or so, try a bowl of each and see if you are...

VaPer Blend + Dark Kentucky Suggestions

Missouri Meerschaum's Country Gentleman is quite good, especialy for the price.

    DIY Aromatic Flavoring Experiments?

Probably the most straightforward way to mix up aromatics (or other tobaccos) you don't like is to mix them in 1/3 or 1/2 into a rather damp saucy aromatic that you do like. Mix them up thoroughly and put them in a jar and let the tobacco meld together for a few weeks. Ive done this many times...

Barling Stepped Up Its Presentation Gane

I have had my eye on these new Barlings. I understand there is no connection to the original except the name, but they do look like nice pipes. Those that have picked one up, do you like yours? Are they made as well as a higher end Savinelli or Pete for example?

Barling Stepped Up Its Presentation Gane

Are they actually made by Kopp or do they farm it out to someone?

My First Mix Update - The Mixmasters Were Absolutely Right

I had about a 75gr or so of the Smoker’s Pride Whisky left over in a small can so I thought I would try a little latakia in it. I went really light, probably 12 or 15 to 1 just enough to get it barely on the edge of perception and all I can say is Wow! I am impressed! I quite liked the Smoker’s...

    Tobacco advice

Since you already got yourself some burley based blends to try and you liked the Great Dane (cherry/vanilla aromatic) you may like Cult Blood Red Moon. It's a very good darker cherry blend with some chocolate notes. Definitely one not to miss if you like a cherry pipe tobacco. One other good...

    Keeping Pipes in Cars

I always have 4-6 pipes, a mix of cobs and briars in my truck. I mostly haven't had any problems but I once accidentally left a brebbia lovat with vulcanite stem on my dash on a hot day and it developed a custom bend from getting so hot. The acrylic stemmed pipes have been fine but I'd be...

How and Why do you Clench?

I clench my pipe to be able to smoke hands free while I work. As for the drooling, when I first started clenching I noticed I did that too, but just keeping at it and clenching my pipe, after a while it just went away and now I rarely have problems with moisture when smoking a pipe.

How Much Does it Take to Ghost?

I have a little Rattray's Ahoy poker that when it was brand new, I made the mistake of smoking two bowls of Gawiths Black Irish XX twist in it. I really can't smoke anything else in that pipe now because it so badly ghosted with that burnt BBQ/motor oil taste of the black twist.

Need Some Recommendations for Quality Aromatics!

The Smoker’s Pride blends by STG/Lane are all good intros to the basic aromatic flavours. For around $20 per 12 oz bag they are a great deal and they tend to smoke fairly cool and dry by aro standards. Buy a bag of each and go to town. Two 'premium' aromatics I'd recommend are GL Pease The...

Blends To Start Your Friends On

I'd probably give them a bowl of Captain Black Dark to try. It's a very forgiving blend and lots of smoke from the Black Cavendish so they can feel like a hero trying to blow smoke rings
