Essential or Not: What's Missing In Your Pipe Gear?

A nice leather pipe roll would be nice. But can't justify it. My pipe and pipe accessory purchases (and tobacco purchases) have come to an end.

Getting Back to Pipes after Cigars - Advice?

I still haven't really figured out how bowl shape affects a smoke. I tend to smoke aros and english blends in larger bowls. I find that aros tend to smoke faster that a quality VA flake (solid or broken) and that a big bowl of VA is sometimes more than I really want. And a more complex blend...

Can one ever really have enough pipes?

Beautiful pipe. For me, the answer to your question is yes. I stopped buying pipes a few years ago. 20-25 pipes is way more than enough for me. I lost the desire to buy any more - feels like a huge waste of money.

Warped Saint Espresso in a Savinelli 626 9mm filter.

    Have Any Blends Gotten Better?

I’ve seen a fair number of blend reviews saying that the blend has changed for the worse. I may be that a more expensive component has been swapped out or reduced due to cost or availability (such as HU Directors Cut, with the perique being cut and replaced with KDF). Or Latakia blends where...

Rationalizing Spending A Lot On A Pipe?

I don't care about resale value of pipes because I have no interest in going through the hassle of selling them. I probably own 3 or 4 relatively expensive (which for me is $200 - 400 roughly) that would even be worth selling. For an $80 or $100 savinelli? I'd probably just give those away...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2023?***

GLP Telegraph Hill (with some age on it) in a Sav 626. Haven’t cracked this jar in a few years and forgot how good it is.

    Sagamore Rye is good stuff!

    Cherrybomb by CAO (Lane)

This was one of the first tobaccos I bought and one of the few that I threw in the garbage after smoking one bowl. Awful stuff.

    Good beginner tobacco?

I will go out on a small limb here and suggest a mild English blend or a crossover. Squadron Leader comes to mind, maybe Early Morning Pipe or Presbyterian. The flavor will come through even if you puff too hard or smoke to fast and you won’t get tongue bite. The OTCs that were mentioned are...

***What Are You Smoking, January 2023?***

Hu Directors Cut in a Stanwell Relief Pipe with a 9mm filter. Been in a jar since July 2020. Has definitely improved with age. I don’t find the DFK overpowering.

    Maltease Falcon tobacco

Squadron Leader is a traditional light English. Latakia forward but not overly strong. Some would consider it a quintessential English blend. It doesn’t have any “aro” like additions like Maltese Falcon (ginger or whatever). Definitely try some when you can get your hands on it.

Cornell & Diehl Small Batch - From Beyond

Ha, totally forgot I had bought two tins of this. Now I am excited. I have a lot open and jarred so may let this sit a bit longer.

    Maltease Falcon tobacco

I like Maltese Falcon quite a bit. To me it's a bit musty and the latakia is toned down, but somehow satisfying. Not a go to English like Squadron Leader but I enjoy it as a once in a while smoke.

    Greetings from New Jersey

Hello all. I'm a 20+ year pipe smoker on and off, currently more on. I have pretty eclectic taste in tobacco and find that I enjoy most other than goopy aromatics and straight VAs (although I do have some of those). I own about 25 pipes and am definitely out of the pipe buying game although...
