How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

Brian, this interview with Hal Harley might interest you esp. regarding your DVD collection (which I understand and appreciate). One of his films is basically unavailable now as it was made with a studio which has no interest in making it available, etc...

Even so... I wonder how ambient light effects the HD as we have windows in every room so there is always some amount of ambient light. I will say that the speaker is pretty damn good on this thing- we have speakers in the room we could hook it to but never bothered.

I get all of that. Actually, being in a NYC apartment space is actually the reason we got the projector vs. a flatscreen TV. We have a pull-down screen which is just in front of a bookshelf and keep the projector just to the side of the sofa when we aren't using it. While the definition isn't...

How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

Have you considered getting a digital projector? We have this one, not sure how HD it is to be honest, but it's rather nice to watch films on. Oddly, I still like to watch my stories (aka British television shows) on a smaller screen. I don't know why I develop so many strange preferences but...

That looks great. Maybe I'll watch that tonight. I enjoyed The Unbelievable Truth just as much as Henry Fool, maybe even more so, and would go as far as calling it a "masterpiece". Check out this scene with a young Ede Falco. It's hilarious. @jpmcwjr I agree about Being There. Whenever I...

Well, hope the VHS isn't wavey or such. I guess you can just blow on it like we use to do in olden days. I wish I had a garage or basement to put in a clunky TV and VHS player. I feel like I'm talking about getting a hand crank phonograph player or something. I only started to realize in the...

@brian64 I watched Henry Fool yesterday. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I'll be thinking about this film for a while... It reminded me of Whit Stillman's (Barcelona etc.) and the French director Éric Rohmer's films, but much more imaginative, indescribable and surprising. Have you...

Actually I have not and planned to look it up later this afternoon as it's the sort of peculiar comedy I like. Every watch the British sketch comedy series The Fast Show?

Their a comfort in these sort of ritual and can add meaning to our lives outside of just being entertained. Unless that is you are re-watching things like Superbad and The Hangover III.

How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

I've only come to realize this evening, well at least in a way that feels like being kicked in the nuts, that my life has become so formulaic. I still do and see interesting things, still find stuff exciting, travel, conversations enjoyable and whatever else you want to fill in but nearly most...

Is that what some refer to as "saw mill gravy" such as the flavorless version Cracker Barrel churns out?

Food you Haven't Had Since your Grandmother(s) Died

I certainly wouldn't call pirogis death on a plate. Carb heavy maybe but not necessarily high in cholesterol or saturated fat depending on the filling (my Grandmother's were always potato and a scant amount of cheese)- and perhaps if you pan try them in lard or such and even if you do they don't...
