    Is There A Real Difference.

Just my two cents. I have pipes ranging from inexpensive to high end. I’ve never noticed a difference other than the airway may be narrower or wider. someone told me Dunhill were the best smokers so I bought a bunch of Dunhills. Someone told me Castillo was the best smokers so I bought a handful...

    Meerschaum Stem Clocking Problem

When I make a Meerschaum pipe I never use threaded inserts even though I can buy them. I use a larger diameter piece of Delron to line the mortise that the tenon will actually go into. That way there is no wear on the raw Meerschaum or worrying about alignment. Just my two cents...

Don't Purchase Meerschaum From This Retailer!! Buyer Beware

I wanted to let everyone know that the closure on this worked out well. The supplier apologized and has sent me a block that he hand picked himself. He educated me on where and how he himself obtains his Meerschaum. He assured me that none of his Meerschaum is reject Meerschaum that would...

Don't Purchase Meerschaum From This Retailer!! Buyer Beware

The last good Meerschaum I had I purchased from Morgan Pipes. He found 8 blocks already cut that were 25 years old. He found them in a box in the basement of an old BM he was cleaning for the owner. Now that was the best Meerschaum I have ever worked with. I bought all 8 pieces. It was pricey...

Don't Purchase Meerschaum From This Retailer!! Buyer Beware

To try and answer your questions" Yes Turkey did pass a law and your statement is correct. They get around this law by putting a 0.50 cent stem on it and then it can be called a 'pipe'. The problem I encountered is that the placement of the mortise is not always well thought out and you have to...

Don't Purchase Meerschaum From This Retailer!! Buyer Beware

I bought four pieces of Meerschaum blocks from this retailer and they turned out to be crap. One piece was so badly cracked I had to throw it away. Here are some pics: see for yourself. Very hard to find Meerschaum these days. The name of the company is OXtation. This is a warning about people...

    Correct Wax For Meerschaum Pipes

Ummm, thanks guys, I think. Let's just pretend for a moment that I actually was able to find, kill, and harvest a sperm whale. What the hell do I do with 300 lbs of sperm jelly? OK, lot's of ideas here. I just finished three meers with yellow bees wax. I'm color blind. I asked my wife her...

    Correct Wax For Meerschaum Pipes

Hi folks, I've made a few Meerschaums in the past and have always used Carnauba wax to finish my Meerschaums with but the other day someone mentioned Bee's wax is the norm for Meerschaum finish. Can someone please clarify which is correct for me? Thank you in advance Chris

Made this Meerschaum but Carnauba Wax Solution Cracked the Mortise.

Well, my lack of knowledge i guess. I just assumed caranuba was the wax used. Next time I’ll try beeswax. I thought the caranuba would color a nice soft, golden brown after smoking it numerous times. Kind of like a well cooked marshmallow over a campfire. live and learn.

Made this Meerschaum but Carnauba Wax Solution Cracked the Mortise.

No not the wax but I usually insert a 5/32” delron liner and then use a 1/4” piece of delron for the tenon. To plug the shank, I turned down a piece of 5/32” delron then wrapped one layer of electrical tape around it to seal it. I forced it too far so operator error on my part.
