***What Are You Smoking, December 2023?***

Never was a Bulldog fan, but just happened to see this guy on eBay one day. Seller wasn't even a "pipe guy", just an antique/estate dealer. I could tell by the pics it was in good shape but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Only needed a light cleanup- $120 won it.

    Rubbing Out Flakes.

I've never had a completely satisfactory smoke from folded flake. Like most things that rely on one or more of our senses, it's all subjective. For me, rubbing flake out well gives me a more flavorful smoke that burns evenly.

Good eye - it's definitely slightly chonkier than many of their straight billiard varietals. Weighing in at a svelte 40(!) grams. A bit over my preferred limit of 32g, but I'm becoming more liberal in my old age.

    Show Us Your Ashton Pipes

I think the early to mid Taylor era had a much better rate of "nice blasts". As far as birth year pipes go (1983 for me), I may never find an acceptable Dunhill, but I'd be open to ANY 1983 Ashton. That'd be quite the birth year piece for me. One of the few pipes I'm always looking out for...

    Full Virgina Flake (Sam Gawith)

The first few attempts at smoking FVF didn't go well for me. Wouldn't stay lit for long and didn't deliver much flavor at all. Then one day, by accident, I let a long flake sit out overnight. In the morning it had dried to "crispy critter" status, but I said what the hell. That smoke was one of...
