***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Having some rattray’s marlin flake this morning, in a straight paneled apple that is a pretty straightforward French interpretation, one of the Brulor makes. Terrible button, but it smokes well.

I haven't had that new 4th generation blend but I have had a lot of blends with Katerini lately, as well as some other interesting oriental varietals. I do enjoy Katerini; reminds me of a spicier and more pungent kasturi. It's less sweet but has the same sort of profile in the spicey notes.

Awakened Elder and Steamworks in a couple work pipes, putting in some overtime this morning.

An Alternative Technique to Avoid Tongue Bite

I am aware of the difference but I have always posited that allowing the smoke to mix with air will itself, buffer the PH of the smoke considerably. This has been my experience at least, but I certainly do not claim to be an authority on the matter. I am glad the charcoal works for you and...

I have some LBF from them that is about that age but I get a copper flavor from it that is giving me a hard time. I’ve heard so much about LNF I will be sorely disappointed if it doesn’t turn out better for me, I intend to pull the trigger and try it soon.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

Finished up early at work so I’m enjoying one of my work pipes and some Mac Baren London Blend, which I don’t actually know the name of. Is it golden brown burley? Is it London blend? I think it’s London Blend and contains golden brown burley, but I digress. In any case, the pipe is a very late...

An Alternative Technique to Avoid Tongue Bite

Have you tried the air pocket method? It gives me a similar effect to what you’re describing here. I really enjoy this method in larger conical bowls on bent stems. I was put off by the idea of not having something solid underneath the tobacco to tamp against, and not having anything under...

    Hello From Kentucky

If you really want to get on their nerves, call them Kentuckistanians. I do it all the time, but it rarely goes over well.

    Hello From Kentucky

Yeah, I love Louisville! I try to get up there to look at music gear occasionally, but y'all have a pipe shop there I'm dying to visit.

    Hello From Kentucky

I love the photo Thank you. Kentucky is beautiful. I loved the coastal plain where I grew up, and while it makes up for it with its sheer biodiversity, I don't think it holds a candle to Appalachia in terms of natural beauty. Also, Appalachia has trout fishing which is undeniably the coolest...

    Hello From Kentucky

I'm really happy with most of them, only ones I've had trouble with are old grabow estate pipes and stuff like that. I got a Brigham that took a little breaking in but it's doing pretty good now that the bowl has a little bit of cake building up. For some reason it really didn't like to smoke to...

    Hello From Kentucky

I've been around tobacco for most of my life. I grew up hanging out on a farm that grew and flue cured Virginia in the Low Country of Southeast Georgia and South Carolina. Before graduating high school I got a job at a local business that produced dip and hookah tobacco. That was an experience...
