Do You have a Pipe You can’t Bring Yourself to Smoke?

I have two Pre-Republic System 0 307's, one smooth and one blast. They were gifts from another forum member and I have zero intention of smoking either. I have so many 307's that leaving two unsmoked doesn't bother me in the least. I also have a cased pair of silver mounted of KB&B LondonLike...

Civil War vets and their pipes

Just a bit of off the cuff math and some semi educated guessing, I'd say its the early 1930's. That would put those gentlemen in their 80's if the were young men during the Civil War and that's about the time color photography was starting to become more widely available.

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

I've always looked at like this, if the stinger was removable from the factory very few people will care if its gone. If it was and integral part of the tenon, its best to leave it if you're concerned about value. LOADS of pipes came with removable do-dads stuck in the end of a vulcanite tenon...

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

The overwhelming majority of Dr G's are exactly as you described, but there are a few that can bring not insignificant amounts of money. A hand full of early Linkman Grabow shapes can do pretty well on the estate market as well as a few of the later shapes in hard to find lines like Commodore...

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

Same, I won't even consider a KW if its been clipped, and if I gamble on one and it shows up clipped I pass it along. They do not bother me in the least.

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

Absolutely, early 4 digit Kaywoodies can and do bring substantial amounts of money. Clip the stinger and its basically worthless...

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

I think they're fairly new to the pipe game. ;)

    Are Stingers Good or Bad?

Those are all removable, and probably should be removed, the bottom three should pull straight out. The top I'm not sure without seeing it up close. Be careful removing them though, they are likely cemented in place with loads of tar and gunk. When they are that filthy they can be hard to get...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Nope, thats a poorly cut Catalin replacement stem, I might be an old one but its not original. The Button is poorly formed, the taper is wrong, the length is wrong, and the transition is bad. Its also got a lot of sanding and file marks around the transition.

    Waxing the Pipe

FWIW, I buy bulk flake carnauba from McMaster Carr and melt it in a pot and then pour it into an old non-stick muffin pan to make pucks. Works like a champ, a single puck will last a long time.

Technically Peterson does still make a regular sized Oom Paul and they make it in a variety of ranges. It's called the D18, unfortunately they don't make very many at all. They only pop up VERY infrequently...

    The Perfect Outdoorsman Hat

Stetson has two outlet stores, one in St Joe, Missouri and one in Garland, TX. You can get Dobbs and Stetson hats for pennies on the dollar. I live about 40min south of the St Joe store and make frequent trips to Garland for work. I buy all my hats there. I generally wear a specific model of...
