    Smokingpipes Stopped Shipping To Washington

I'm in Washington, and it is indeed nasty. There arenn't many B&Ms left, though most closed ages ago. We used to have Tinder Box stores in Tukwila (Southcenter Mall), Tacoma (Tacoma Mall, then moved), Bellevue (Bellvue Square Mall, then moved), Issaquah, and at least two other malls, as well as...

A Trip To The Antique Shop!

I like the Grandi pipe a lot. But I ADORE the Viprati. And the story on how you got it is absolute gold, I'm glad you write that all out. Kaywoodie meerschaum sure is pretty, too, in a great case and already coloring.

Suggestions for Someone to Make a New Stem for a Bekler Meer?

I, too, suggest Briarville. He's re-stemmed several of my pipes, including two antique meerschaums, and in one of those cases, also rejoined a shattered shank, keeping the original rose gold band.

Need a Little Help From the Experts

Sears is pretty much out-of-business, unfortunately. But only a few years ago, believe it or not, their website listed some Turkish meerschaum pipes! Your local library may have these reprints; I have a 1904 one, and somewhere another from just pre-1900. Ben Rapaport's book "Collecting Antique...

    1920 Amber-Stemmed Dunhill Fitment

I know nothing that'd help your inquiry, but I have to say that's a beautiful pipe.

    Bubinga Wood (?)

I, too, would be extremely cautious smoking from a wood that may or may not cause allergy issues.

Need a Little Help From the Experts

These are also called "lap pipes" (because of how you smoke them). The carvings most frequently feature animals, battles, and pastoral scenes. They're frequently dated... and the dates are always wrong! The meerschaum pipe industry didn't get started until the middle of the 1800s. These pipes...

What Did I Buy? Block Meerschaum. Pressed, or Clay?

I, too, think it's block. Probably Turkish from the 1960s. Plastic stem. I say just leave the number where it is and smoke it!

    Philippe Bargiel Pipe

I always really wanted a Bargiel meerschaum. Yours is coloring beautifully! I wish I had a lead on a nice bent one for you.

A Trip To The Antique Shop!

I like some of the Mario Grandi pipes, and this one's shape and vibe would normally not be my thing, but for some reason, this one is. I love that birdseye. Hope it smokes well!

A Shot in the Dark, ID'ing a Pipe My Grandfather Had...?

Snagstangl, most similar to that first flat-bottomed pipe, but much more evenly-distributed. If you look at the profile of that bowl, you can see a scalloped appearance; his looked smooth on the edge. He probably got it in the 1960s or 1970s, and as said, it would've been a very small town shop...

A Shot in the Dark, ID'ing a Pipe My Grandfather Had...?

The stem was less slanted than the 614, and the bowl was taller but had the same sort of curved taper. The transition around the bottom is curved about right. A 'proper' one for me would definitely not need the metal spacer. Of course, I won't look the part of those, ahem, spies without a bushy...

A Shot in the Dark, ID'ing a Pipe My Grandfather Had...?

I suppose I should add that I don't expect someone to identify this exact pipe. I eventually hope to locate a pipe with enough of the characteristics-- basically: oom-paul, black and rusticated, slightly tapered bowl, shank angled black a bit, rounded transition at the bottom, vulcanite saddle...

A Shot in the Dark, ID'ing a Pipe My Grandfather Had...?

I don't have any of him smoking a pipe. But I strongly feel like my memories of it are sharp. Talking about it brought back another memory: as a young kid, I felt the pipe had a sort of sinister vibe, and I remember taking it down off the rack in the bedroom once, handling it, then getting...

A Shot in the Dark, ID'ing a Pipe My Grandfather Had...?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) I began collecting pipes as a kid (really!) because of my grandfather's pipe smoking and his small collection. He mostly smoked Sir Walter Raleigh and something called Sugar Barrel (anyone know what the latter was?) in corncobs, but he had a...

    Acrylic Spigot Meerschaum

I really like these military bits with the acrylic ferrule. The common vintage Pioneer gourd calabashes have them. In my experience, those stay put very well.

    Blue Stem Blues

I think a cobalt-blue stem would be beautiful on the right pipe. I can imagine that on a heavily-rusticated, jet black oom-paul, or full-bent egg, same finish.

    Tacky Pipes

They're also expensive, something like $40 each. I won't be buying one, even though I genuinely like some really ugly stuff because it's ugly, and these pipes are hideous.

    SRV Meerschaum Pipes?

Nice pipe. I don't know carver Emir, but this is a simplified version of a floral style originally made by Sevket Gezer and now made mostly by Tekin.

Trying to Identify This Meerschaum with a AKD Label.

Nice 1970s meerschaum. I've seen AKD before, but know nothing about it. Is there a name carved anywhere on the pipe?
