    Why? Meerschaum Trimmings

Judging by the envelope and the inscription on it I think these were saved for a more sentimental reason. It looks like maybe Ismet Beckler was doing a carving demonstration at a pipe shop and someone collected the swarf from his demo, possibly they bought the pipe it came off of. There would...

There's a Hole in my Pipe, Dear Liza!

You would essentially have to strip the entire pipe and restain it. And even then the repair would not be invisible. To plug it you would have to drill a hole as big as the overall area of damage and ream the hole tapered, then put a tapered briar plug called a "dutchman" in and carve it down to...

    Deep Cleaning Cob Pipes

I use two fluffy bristled pipe cleaners together with denatured alcohol and clean out the stem and shank when it gets funky. I ream with a paper towel after every few smokes.

    Zippo Fluid

Zippo/Ronsolol are just Naptha, I just buy Naptha by the gallon at the hardware store and put it in a hair dye bottle to fill lighters. I've been doing it for years its cheaper and more effective. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip-1-gal-Varnish-Maker-and-Painter-s-Naphtha-GVM46/205157925...

What Tobacco did your Ancestors Smoke?

My Uncle smoked Captain Black (White)/RLP6 and occasionally HGL. My cousin smoked Amphora until they stopped making it and then smoked 1Q until he died.

    Burnout?!?

THe only way to tell if it's burnout is to ream (sand) it back to bare briar. If it is burnout it can be fixed with waterglass/carbon by a competent repairman.

    Cheers from Tennessee!

Welcome, people claim Mixture 79 tastes just like Dr Pepper. I think the stuff is dreadful, but find that RLP6 does have a bit of Dr P flavor.

    Cloning A Stem?

Seeing how it's a conventional push tenon it shouldn't be difficult for anyone who hand cuts stems to copy. But it will be pricey at probably $120+ per stem.

    Help with German Hunter.

If there is smoke coming out of the wood itself that means there are inclusions in the wood that go all the way through. If there are inclusions they will eventually cause burn out. You could try coating the inside of the bowl in waterglass and carbon to seal the inclusions. If it were mine I'd...

Smooth Cobs: Possible Damage to Finish

Dish soap generally contains either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and both will definitely remove lacquer or shellac. Lacquer and shellac are natural plant/animal proteins and alkali metal hydroxides will dissolve those.

Smooth Cobs: Possible Damage to Finish

They fill them with plaster and then lacquer over the top of that.

    Cloning A Stem?

What exactly is it you like about the one stem as opposed to the other two? Copying a stem isn't terribly difficult for a competent repairman. Do you have a picture of the stems in question? Copying a meerschaum stem is a little harder if they don't have the right taps to install the proper...
