How'd They Do It: Curved Airway in Horn Stem?

I just assumed that the pipemaker either reserves drill bits that suffer from Peyronie's Disease for drilling curved airways, or owns a miniature tunnel borer that can be driven by a well-trained flea.

Filling the Bowl with Tobacco-What to Use?

I don't do anything that tediously complicated--I have a small leather valet tray, I just take out a couple pinches from a pouch, canister, or jar, then drop it in the tray, do whatever I need to do to make it pack nice, then I feed it to Mr. Pipe. What's left in the tray gets poured back into...

    Lorenzo and Bigben Case Set?

No experience with Lorenzo, but I'm a fan of Big Ben pipes. My first pipe was a Barbados 647.

    Thoughts on Vauen Pipes?

I've only got one Vauen pipe (a Minni for strong shags) and it's an absolutely twee little thing. It seems very well made and smokes nicely, so their other pipes are probably generally just as good.

    Self Haircut

I do. I mow my melon into stubble with a 25 year old pair of Wahl dog clippers.

Where Do You Dump Your Ashes?

On the road, I just use my Xikar ash can, which lives in my man purse. At home, we have a buttbucket out on the front porch that I dump ashes into.

FDA Denies 55,000 "Vape" Products by Denying Marketing Applications

Ooh, I actually know something about this! That particular industry basically did it to themselves--it all started out with pretty basic, low-powered, and temperamental cigarette-like devices developed in China by Hon Lik in the early 2000s, and the two flavor choices you had back then were...

Who Makes the Best Factory Pipe Sub $100?

My collection of 40-something pipes consists of Briarworks, Moonshine, Big Ben, Morgan Bones, Chacom, Al Pascia, Kirsten, Missouri Meerschaum, and I have a Vauen in the mailbox. No idea how that one will perform, but it'll probably be decent. The cheapest pipes I own cost around $25 (MM acorn...

    Vultures Move To Town

Inedible waste meaning an open topped trailer full of Hot Pockets? I guess that’s one way to season them and improve their dietary value before packaging them for retail.

    Vultures Move To Town

Hmmm. That explains the weird off notes in every Hot Pocket flavor I've tried. In particular, I tried a...I want to say it was some kind of meatball marinara type one, but I don't remember the exact name. If smells could inspire headlines, this one would've been "DECOMPOSING REMAINS OF ITALIAN...

What Is Your Favourite Room Note ?

I smoke outside out of choice, but plan to eventually have some kind of nicely ventilated pipe/cigar lounge shed out back at some point. Room note is nice, but also pretty transient, it's there for a little while and then turns into something that's not much of an improvement over unwashed...

Estate Pipes Nice To Look At, But-

I used to avoid estates because I didn't really want to pay money for and smoke somebody else's sloppy seconds, but 2 of my favorite pipes are a pair of estate Kirsten Ds. I didn't see that coming.

If You Smoke Aromatics Is It The Tobacco You're Enjoying ?

I like both aromatics and non-aromatics, but gravitate towards the latter more. Probably because a lot of the aromatics I've tried tend to be pretty light in nicotine, and I like me some Vitamin N.

An Easy Way To Get An Air Pocket

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I find that fitting a Hot Pocket into my pipe is difficult and also ghosts it something fierce. Air pockets are easier and don't ghost my pipes with some weird rank cheesy pepperoni funk.

    Briars With Small Bowls?

Briarworks OR01 stubby apple. My pinky is a tight fit in the bowl and only goes down to slightly above the first knuckle. It holds pretty much exactly the amount of tobacco you'd stuff into a king size RYO tube. I've also got an aluminum/briar Comet bowl for one of my Kirsten Ds that holds about...

    What's Your Preferred EDC Knife?

I usually carry a Leatherman multitool and a Schrade Old Timer folding knife. Weapon potential never really enters the equation for me, just utility and versatility. Since nobody wins a knife fight unless the other party is unarmed or caught completely unprepared, and then it’s no longer...

Which are Your Least Favoured Shapes

I don't really have any hangups related to the type of pipe. I'm more interested in flow and proportion, and I like short and fat pipes because I'm short and fat. A skinny billiard typically doesn't really do anything for me, but an Al Pascia Curvy 02 hits the right notes. Weirdo stubby shapes...

    I Used To Think...

The right number of pipes is the right number of pipes. For me, that used to be 40-something, but I figured out what I like and I've only got a couple out on my shelf now. The rest are having a nice nap in the closet until I want a change of pace, then I'll just rotate out a new set. Keeps...

What Do You Use for a 5-Minute Smoking Break

I had a bunch of small bowled pipes like the Briarworks OR01, which hold pretty much exactly a cigarette's worth of tobacco. Problem is, I like to clean my pipes after every smoke, and going through all that for a short bowl feels a bit silly. So, I don't use them that often, and would really...
