Aging Eyes and Churchwarden Length Pipes

Another good thing about churchwardens is that they make it harder to blow out your match if you forget to hold the pipe to one side while lighting it, or deliberately blow the blast of air out the other side of your mouth. If a churchwarden is too "presumptuous" or "pretentious," you can...

    Vest Pocket Pipes

I had one ages ago (Winter '73-4), bought it at Vottis pipe shop in Schenectady NY. Truly, I didn't smoke it all that often, partly because it was a rather small bowl, and partly because the radius of the two ends of the oval bowl were too narrow to allow for proper tamping (and therefore...

    Improve My Modest Cellar

Ten Russians is considered a Lat Bomb? When I tried it, I thought of it as about halfway there, compared to the long gone Vottis English.

I Hate Christmas Before Thanksgiving. *Not To Include Secret Santa.

It was the month of August when all the Christmas junk was put out on the shelves of (what was then) our local Woolworth's store. Turned out to be the last year it was in business altogether.

    Purchasing A Meerschaum

I remember reading a story some while back claiming that Brits working overseas in the Empire who were under the impression that meerschaum pipes would color more quickly and beautifully if one kept the pipe warm the entire time, would hire junior officers of the British Army to smoke them...

Look What We Found Digging In The Yard. What Is It...Any Ideas?

Have You Ever Seen A Beer Can Like This?

Given the first types of beer in cans used cans shaped just about like the old metal cans for brake fluid, I don't mind that these guys DIDN'T go 'retro'.

Is There Any Cure For Stupid? 2 Examples Of Sheer Stupidity.

That's one thing that's long been known. There are far too many people who believe completely that since they have spent so much time and effort becoming experts in their own field, that makes them experts in everybody else's field as well. As one of thousands of examples,Margaret Murray, an...

Is There Any Cure For Stupid? 2 Examples Of Sheer Stupidity.

The best you can do is to allow the Stupids to go and win themselves a Darwin Award. Nature allows the inferior to eliminate itself from the gene pool, but we humans keep interfering with the process.

    Bone Tenon Query

Whereas some much more recent meerschaums might have a plastic mortise sleeve insert, and a plastic stem insert, and a push-in piece that goes between the two. Some have push into the stem only and screw into the shank insert (or the other way around).

    Spigots

I dunno . . . a .50 BMG might be a little too large a diameter for even a WDC Wellington Giant. NOPE! Just pulled my Giant out, and it looks like the .50 case might work on that just fine. Might even be too loose by 1/8" till you get down to the shoulder.

    Pipe Mud Question

I once bought a "Egg in Dragon Claw Hydrostone Pipe" which was pretty fancy (and a whole lot less expensive than Meerschum). It was pretty nice until one day when it just crumbled into ruin.
